About Fiveonefour

We believe that data is the key to unleashing human potential. We've seen firsthand how data helps bridge art and science to create delightful experiences, impactful insights, and seamless automation. We're an early-stage, venture-backed company on a mission to get data out of specialized silos and adopted across all facets of a company. We're building a new kind of data platform that enables all developers, not just data specialists, to easily create and scale delightful data-intensive experiences.

We’re experienced founders with a track record of success. We have a remote-first team, are backed by incredible investors, and are building a high-performance culture that’s flexible and works well for working parents.

A note about our job descriptions. We’ve written many JDs in our careers and wanted to try something new. We believe that everyone on the team deserves to have a great relationship with their manager. Our hiring managers write their job posts, choose their words intentionally, and use this as an opportunity to open up a dialogue.

The role

As part of our engineering team, you’ll work directly with customers and internal teams to deploy data solutions that address real-world challenges. You’ll collaborate closely with client IT, operations, and engineering teams to integrate our products, streamline workflows, and deliver actionable data insights. In this hands-on role, you’ll tackle complex technical issues, ensure security standards are met, and drive impactful outcomes. Along the way, you’ll partner with business stakeholders and executives to ensure the solutions not only function effectively but also align with broader business goals, both internally and externally.

What to expect from me

I am both a player and a coach for the team. I roll up my sleeves and care a lot about my craft. I am pragmatic, I spend my innovation chips deliberately and will encourage you to do the same. I love learning, and I am always eager to read about the latest trends and best practices. I firmly believe that engineering is a team sport; the best technical architectures and designs come out of tight collaborations between team members. I will challenge your designs, encourage you to hone your craft, expect you to ship code to production often, and eventually expect you to coach more junior engineers as the team grows.

What to expect from your peers

As a forward-deployed engineer on the team, you will collaborate closely with the product, design, and the rest of the engineering team to get Moose, Boréal and Sloan to the next stage of maturity of their lifecycle. This team of ambitious and pragmatic people cares about each other’s happiness. We all love the challenge and the thrill of the early stages of a company. We come from different parts of the world and appreciate what our cultures and experiences bring to the table. Many of us are parents and hence build in flexibility to be there for our families. You can choose to leverage that flexibility in whichever ways work for you.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a dedicated resource to support and scale our client data strategies.
  • Integration & Deployment: Deploy and maintain integrations between Moose, Boréal, and Sloan products and the client’s existing enterprise systems of record, as well as other relevant use cases that may arise.
  • Data Strategy Execution: Collaborate with clients’ IT and operations teams to facilitate data flow automation, real-time insights, and Enterprise System of Record integrations.
  • Liaison Role: Act as a technical liaison between Fiveonefour and the client, ensuring consistent communication and ongoing alignment of goals.
  • Data Enrichment: Implement and enhance the data infrastructure, leveraging real-time and Enterprise System of Record Data to enable predictive analytics, decision automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure security protocols are followed, contributing to the client’s enhanced cybersecurity measures.
  • Problem Solving: Address technical challenges in scaling infrastructure, automating workflows, and integrating new data sources into the unified platform.
  • On-Site Collaboration TBD: Anticipate working on site 3-5 days / week.
Qualifications:Must haves:
  • Robust coding skills in Python or Typescript
  • Robust working SQL skills.
  • Robust architectural and system design skills.
  • Strong knowledge of various data storage mechanisms (e.g., databases, columnar storage, and file formats) and data transport and computing mechanisms.
  • Strong networking experience: routers, backbones, and BGP are things you are familiar with.
  • Experience working on end-to-end data strategies for medium to large enterprises.
  • Experience with data integration and working with data lakes, Enterprise System of Record, and cloud infrastructures.
  • Great communication skills - written and verbal
  • Undaunted by a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Undeterred by critical, to-the-point feedback from customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, building systems, and making sense of what others might consider chaos.
  • Strong ability to learn new skills and demonstrable capacity to learn a multitude of programming languages.
  • 6 -10 years of work experience required.
Nice to haves:
  • Clickhouse Experience
  • BI Experience
  • Pixel perfect Web UI building
  • Developer Tools Building Experience
