Design fluid and mechanical components for spacecraft propulsion, manage project schedules and budgets, and ensure systems meet structural integrity standards.
About Gravitics
At Gravitics, we're not just exploring space—we're building it. We're creating the infrastructure for a thriving space economy, enabling humanity to flourish beyond Earth. Our vision is bold, but we're not just dreamers; we're doers. We design and manufacture the large-scale structures and systems that will power human and robotic activity in Earth orbit and beyond. If you're ready to lay the foundations for a new era in space, embrace a culture of relentless learning and innovation, and contribute to a future where humanity's reach extends farther, Gravitics is the place for you. Let's build the future, together.
About the Role
Gravitics is looking for a Fluids Mechanical Engineer to join the Vehicle Engineering design team. You will be responsible for clean sheet design of fluid & mechanical components for spacecraft propulsion, including tanks, fluid lines, and mounting systems.
About You
You’re a successful candidate if you are a giver. You have an ability to make things happen. You are exceptional at several things, yet willing to take on efforts in areas of weakness.
Responsibilities
- Design and analyze vehicle tubing, manifold, and mounting systems to ensure these systems are structurally capable of surviving vehicle load cases
- Define and manage the schedule and budget for your fluids systems
- Create detailed component and assembly drawings incorporating an understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
- Failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal, static, vibration, and shock loads
- Work with suppliers and our manufacturing team to make your designs a reality
- Develop and document efficient build processes, work with technicians to improve instructions
- Be a reliable expert of your system, from concept to mission control console
Preferred Qualifications
- Owned projects from design to launch for complex fluid systems
- Familiarity with CAD and Analysis packages(and willingness to learn NX and Simcenter)
- 3+ years of industry experience in design, build, and/or testing of fluids systems used for aerospace applications
- Understanding of fluid components such as valves, bellows, tubing, and other pressurized hardware
- Strong understanding and application of drafting standards and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) in creating drawings
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field
Bonus Points For
- Exposure to designing for high vibration environments
- Familiarity with NASA NSS 1740.15 (Safety Standard for Oxygen and Oxygen Systems)
- Experience testing and operating with or around hazardous systems (high pressure, high energy, hazardous gases & fluids, etc.)
- Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices such as ASME B31.3, ASME BPV Code Section VIII, and AFSPCMAN 91-710
- Proficiency with fluid analysis tools (Siemens AMESim, Thermal Desktop, Python, EES, REFPROP, Excel, Matlab, or equivalent)
- Having a design portfolio
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
