Position: Financial Data Analyst & Development Operations Programmer
Overview
At Ascent CFO Solutions, we are a leading Fractional CFO services firm dedicated to providing strategic financial leadership and insights for scaling companies. Our mission is to empower businesses to achieve financial clarity and sustainable growth.
We’re looking for a top-notch Financial Data Analyst + Development Operations Programmer who understands finance and can design, structure, and automate data in ways that are genuinely useful for clients and internal teams. This role blends financial analysis with data architecture and the design and development of scalable systems.
This role is split between direct client work with Ascent CFO Solutions clients and internal development for the organization. You’ll partner with smaller, growing clients—many of whom are encountering formal data architecture for the first time—to clean, structure, and model financial data, helping them build practical, scalable foundations. The remainder of your time will be spent developing and improving internal systems, tools, and automations. This is a hands-on role for someone who is curious, systems-oriented, and comfortable teaching themselves new tools as needed.
Core Responsibilities
Client Financial Data & Analytics (≈45%)
  • Work directly with clients to assess, restructure, and improve financial data to redesign them into intuitive, usable, and effective solutions
  • Perform FP&A-style analysis using Excel, Google Sheets, and Power Query
  • Build and maintain complex financial models, including robust cash flow forecasting tools and multi-source spreadsheet systems (often syncing 10–15+ interconnected spreadsheets)
  • Clean, transform, and normalize financial data for reporting and analysis
  • Apply strong accounting knowledge to ensure data aligns correctly across P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow models
Internal Development & Dev Operations (≈45%)
  • Design and build internal tools and systems to support client delivery and internal workflows
  • Develop and maintain spreadsheet-based systems with advanced logic and automation
  • Write and maintain Google Apps Script
  • Build and support API-based integrations and data connections
  • Automate data flows between systems and spreadsheets
  • Integrate and experiment with AI tools (including Gemini) to improve efficiency and tooling
  • Utilize AI tools (including Gemini) where helpful to accelerate development, but understand the underlying logic well enough to troubleshoot and extend it
Power BI Development (≈10%)
  • Serve as a Power BI developer supporting client reporting needs
  • Help maintain and evolve our Power BI infrastructure, ensuring data models, refresh processes, and reporting standards remain reliable and scalable.
  • Use Power Query to clean, normalize, and prepare client data from various sources
  • Design and maintain clear, logical Power BI data models that reflect underlying financial realities
Ideal Skillset
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, including the ability to create and use LAMBDA functions for custom, reusable formulas, complex spreadsheet modeling, and automation.
  • Strong experience with Power Query (Excel or Power BI) and working knowledge of Power BI, including building data models and preparing data for reporting.
  • Must have an understanding of accounting and financial data, including how P&L, balance sheets, and financial statements interrelate.
  • Experience cleaning, transforming, and structuring real-world (often messy) financial data
  • Ability to independently evaluate data structures and propose better solutions
  • Google Apps Script or JavaScript
  • API integrations and data connectivity
Location: This is a fully remote position
Compensation: $125k-$150k plus bonus potential
