Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free.

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a Finance Manager (Compliance and Governance), this position manages restricted donation reports and works closely with the Fundraising team to ensure accurate financial tracking and alignment with donors’ intentions. The position is also responsible for leading the Finance department in Brazil and designing and maintaining a global internal controls framework to protect the organization and its assets while ensuring data integrity. In addition, the Finance Manager oversees financial compliance, including annual accounting and tax filings, to ensure adherence to regulations across all of our international operations.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Restricted Donation Reporting and Fundraising Partnership: Responsible for end-to-end tracking, analysis, and financial reporting for all restricted donations, partnering with the Fundraising team to ensure accurate expense allocation and alignment with donors’ intentions.
  • Internal Controls and Governance: Develop, implement, and evaluate a global internal controls framework; periodically review workflows — including segregation of duties and procurement processes — to ensure data integrity, mitigate risks, and optimize operations.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: Lead compliance initiatives in a global context, including annual tax filings in Brazil and the U.S. (e.g., 1099-NEC/MISC), vendor data verification, and tracking of W-9 forms, as applicable to international operations. Ensure accurate financial and vendor compliance across all jurisdictions where the organization operates.
  • Strategy and Operational Support: Develop and update global financial policies, identify opportunities for process automation, and collaborate with regional accounting teams to embed control points into daily operations.
  • General Support: Conduct ad hoc financial analyses as needed, maintain effective cross-functional communication, and ensure adherence to organizational policies.
  • Support the Vice President of Finance in overseeing and executing the organization’s investment strategy.
  • Provide guidance and peer review of financial results to support accuracy and team development.
  • Communicate financial information clearly across different functional and geographic areas, ensuring alignment and adapting communication for non-financial audiences.
  • Comply with all Mercy For Animals policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Your qualifications will take our team to the next level:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related fields; master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial management and accounting practices in Brazil, with additional experience in international financial practices.
  • Knowledge and application of accounting principles, including financial statements.
  • Results-oriented with excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Availability to travel.
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese (written and spoken).
  • Support for Mercy For Animals’ philosophy and the ability to professionally represent the organization’s positions.
  • Commitment to and openness toward continuous personal and organizational growth in the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Alignment with Mercy For Animals’ mission and values.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values.
