Job Description
Note: This is a remote position with travel (~75%) to support projects.
The candidate MUST reside in or be open to relocation to FL, GA, NC, or SC.
The preferred candidate will reside in the state of Georgia.
Overview:
The Field Engineer is responsible for implementing complex communication system infrastructure and technical support of specialized subsystems and product applications. This includes troubleshooting software-driven electronics, IP networks, server and network hardware, as well as performance verification and optimization of RF and broadband architecture, encompassing legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to implement, optimize, test, cutover, and document advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
- Utilizes system design drawings, planners, and product documentation to oversee the onsite installation of network, server, and RF equipment. Provides as-built information for the final system documentation package.
- Utilizes network design tools, formalized process documents, and customer input to perform onsite and remote configuration of network, server, RF, and databases. Provides as-configured documentation and baseline reports.
- Utilizes system logs and tools to perform onsite and remote troubleshooting of networks, servers, databases, and RF infrastructure. Verifies system logs and event monitoring applications are clear of any faults.
- Utilizes product and system test plans to perform acceptance testing. Corrects any deficiencies found during testing. Provides accepted test results for the final system documentation package.
- Utilizes product specifications, FCC license data, and design parameters to perform performance verification/optimization of advanced digital and legacy analog RF infrastructure. Provides baseline measurement data and accepted test results for the final system documentation package.
- Utilizes project design drawings and customers' current system information to design/develop solutions to complex technical issues encountered during system implementation, upgrades, or support issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
- Unique combinations of multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills are required.
- Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN IP networks and proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems, including cabling, routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of Server Virtualization, specifically with VMWare ESXi v.6+ or Microsoft Hyper-V 2012+
- Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of Server Operating Systems, specifically Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2019
- Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of Workstation Operating Systems, specifically Windows and RedHat Linux
- Experience with installation, administration, and troubleshooting of Switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of secure products/protocols (KMF, KVL, AES)
- Knowledge of RF systems, such as transmitters, receivers, filters, and antenna networks
- Experience working on Project 25 products (trunked and conventional)
- Demonstrate systems experience and have related experience with the following equipment:
- Motorola base stations (Quantar, G-Series)
- Motorola consoles (MCC7500, AXS)
- Astro25 Systems
- Knowledge of standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet-switching techniques
- Experience with logging recording systems
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google G-Suite applications
The candidate should also have the following:
- Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola Solutions' customers and partner community, as well as internal Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.
- Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.
- Candidate should be able to operate under stressful situations to resolve customer problems quickly.
- Excellent communication skills and always present a professional image.
The candidate must have:
- A valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a background check as required by CJIS
Ideally, the individual should have or be pursuing at least one industry network certification. Examples include:
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Juniper JNCIA
- Cisco CCNA
- Nokia NRS1
Target Base Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD
