The Field Engineer 1 is an entry-level engineering position whose focus is on-site project installation and execution. As the face of Pando Telecom on a customer site, a field engineer must display professionalism and technical expertise as they manage the installation, deployment, testing, and documentation of telecommunications infrastructure.
Although this role does not require a high level of experience, a successful field engineer will display an eagerness and ability to learn technical concepts and their application in the real world.
This position reports directly to the Director of Project Delivery.
Core responsibilities include:
- Display a willingness and ability to learn
- You will be educated on how to read and understand building floor plans
- You will be educated on the basics of RF design, installation, and testing
- Perform site surveys
- Document site conditions: identify relevant telecommunications rooms, assess rack/wall space within a telecommunications room, assess power availability, assess cable pathways, assess available horizontal and vertical penetrations
- Perform a benchmark test of a building: scan the area for relevant cellular signals, and walk-test the building using a scanning receiver and other test equipment
- Review and understand design documentation
- Assess the proposed solution for constructability based on the actual conditions of the building, and provide feedback to the engineering team as needed
- Oversee the installation of in-building wireless systems
- Receive and review equipment shipments to verify that all ordered equipment has been accounted for
- Ensure that systems are installed as per the design documentation and according to the designated specifications
- In most cases, this will require the management of a subcontractor that is installing cable and electronics
- In some cases, you will be asked to perform installation of cable and electronics.
- Termination and testing of cables
- Perform basic system green-lighting and commissioning work
- Work with the engineering and project management teams to gather all documentation necessary to verify that the system has been installed properly and is performing as expected
- Provide daily progress reports on projects in Jira
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience installing in-building telecommunications systems, including Wi-Fi and/or DAS
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Willingness to learn new skills, software, databases, and technologies
- Experience working remotely and in an office environment
Requirements:
- Willingness to travel
- Our customers have a national footprint, and so do we. You will be expected to travel up to 80% of the time, based on project requirements

- As a remote employee, you will be expected to work independently and effectively make use of your time to prepare for projects and meet deadlines.
- You will work with the Director of Project Delivery to create a schedule that prioritizes project/company needs.

Compensation:
- Annual Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 USD
