Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
At Block, we don't just manage the external workforce-we architect the infrastructure that enables our business to scale with agility, compliance, and precision.
Our Global External Workforce Program is the connective tissue between talent strategy, procurement innovation, and operational excellence. We work in the gray-where policies meet people, speed meets structure, and ambiguity demands thoughtful action.
We're looking for a strategic powerhouse to join our team as an External Workforce Business Partner (EWBP)-a high-impact role that blends business acumen, policy expertise, and program execution to elevate our external workforce program to its next stage of maturity. You'll act as a trusted advisor and solution engineer across EMEA, NORAM, and APAC, delivering strategic guidance while navigating the nuances of global regulations, diverse work models, and evolving business needs. This role reports to the Global Head of External Workforce and partners closely with a globally distributed team to shape and execute a world-class external workforce strategy.
You Will

  • Engineer Scalable Solutions: Build and evolve a global framework that governs all external worker types-staff augmentation, vendors, contractors, freelancers, influencers-balancing regulatory rigor with speed-to-market flexibility.
  • Advise in Ambiguity: Serve as a strategic SME to senior stakeholders, helping them navigate complex workforce decisions with insight, agility, and a business-first mindset.
  • Innovate at the Intersection of Compliance & Agility: Design and implement policy and process solutions that ensure global consistency without sacrificing innovation or velocity.
  • Leverage Tech to Empower People: Identify and deploy next-gen technology platforms to enhance how Block sources, engages, and manages its external workforce ecosystem.
  • Shape Strategic Vendor Relationships: Manage and elevate vendor partnerships to align with Block's scale and service expectations, driving continuous improvement and measurable performance.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a connective force across HR, Procurement, Legal, Finance, and business leadership to deliver integrated workforce strategies.
  • Champion Change & Enable Learning: Create and deliver thoughtful documentation, training, and change management strategies to upskill internal teams and reinforce best practices.
  • Own the Operational Backbone: Support day-to-day operations with our MSP and serve as a senior escalation point for resolution of workforce-related challenges.
  • Measure What Matters: Co-create and analyze supplier KPIs, service performance metrics, and program benchmarks to inform strategic direction and drive accountability.
  • Future-Proof the Program: Lead special projects that challenge the status quo, from automation pilots to new market launches and beyond.

You Have

  • 8+ years of experience operating in complex, global organizations-ideally within high-growth tech or fintech.
  • A deep understanding of contingent workforce models, vendor management systems (VMS), and the external labor landscape.
  • Proven ability to advise business leaders and deliver strategic insights while juggling competing priorities.
  • Comfort with navigating gray areas-balancing operational requirements with the strategic context to find optimal paths forward.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Suite skills to translate complex data into clear, persuasive recommendations.
  • Experience partnering with or managing MSPs, staffing suppliers, or BPO providers.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills-able to translate policies and strategies into meaningful conversations.
  • A high tolerance for ambiguity, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a bias for action.
