The External Reporting Lead will enhance financial reporting processes, ensure compliance with US GAAP, prepare financial statements, and support investor reporting for Teamshares.

Teamshares is a mission-driven startup that buys small businesses from retiring owners and transitions them into enduring, employee-owned businesses through our software, education, and community products. There wasn't an easy way for small businesses—which make up 98% of firms in the US economy—to become employee-owned before Teamshares!
We are looking for an External Reporting Lead to help grow the complex financial analysis and reporting process for Teamshares and for the small businesses we support. This role will undertake an overhaul of our current processes and build out more robust reporting in line with public SEC regulations.
What You'll Do:
- Prepare financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP
- Support the build-out of financial statements and related disclosures, as well as investor reporting materials
- Conduct disclosure benchmarking against industry peers to support management’s disclosure objectives while maintaining compliance requirements
- Support the Financial Reporting team in preparing consolidated financial statements, including intercompany eliminations, reconciliations, and analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements
- Perform foreign currency translation and remeasurement for international subsidiaries, ensuring proper consolidation of results and compliance with ASC 830 and SEC reporting standards
- Assist in the calculation and review of non-controlling interest within consolidated financial statements to ensure accurate presentation and compliance with U.S. GAAP reporting requirement
- Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate quarterly reviews, annual audits, and technical accounting assessments
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing financial reporting processes, internal controls, and automation
- Monitor the issuance of new FASB pronouncements, advise about changes in reporting requirements and the best approach for implementation
- Assist with technical accounting research and analysis on non-recurring and complex transactionsCollaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, including finance, capital markets, tax, legal, and FP&A
- Contribute to special projects or ad hoc tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or extensive work experience in these areas
- Have 4-7 years of progressive experience at a Big 4 accounting firm and/or in a financial reporting role at a public company
- CPA license preferred but not required
- Familiarity with reporting tools and financial systems such as OneStream and NetSuite
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards and disclosure requirements under US GAAP and SEC regulations
- Have experience with preparation of 10-Ks and 10-Qs
- Experience with the preparation and consolidation of intercompany transactions across multiple subsidiaries, ensuring accurate eliminations
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to self-review work
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders
- A problem-solving mindset, with the ability to work independently and propose solutions or alternatives in the face of ambiguity
- Curiosity and motivation to learn, grow, and develop knowledge in unfamiliar areas
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, including strong prioritization and time management skills and adaptability
