Root was founded on the belief that car insurance is broken, and we set out to change it. We’re harnessing the power of technology to revolutionize this archaic, complicated industry. Using machine learning and mobile telematic platforms, we’ve built one of the most innovative insurtech companies in the world.

The Opportunity

At Root, we’re reimagining car insurance by building a smarter, more equitable system from the ground up.

As the Executive Assistant for our Product Management and Communications departments, you’ll be the operational backbone of two influential leaders at Root — providing leverage, structure, and strategic coordination to the VP of Product and our Chief Communications Officer. This isn’t a traditional administrative role. It’s a launchpad for someone ambitious, detail-oriented, and eager to understand how a product and communications organizations actually run.

You’ll orchestrate time, information, and priorities across two of the highest-velocity organizations at Root — making sure the right people are in the right conversations at the right moments. The systems and rhythms you put in place will directly influence how our teams execute against the company’s most critical objectives.

This role reports directly to the VP of Product.

Salary Range:  $74,160 - $92,700
Root is a “work where it works best” company. This means we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US.

The posting for this position will close on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. (EST). We encourage interested applicants to apply before the deadline for full consideration.

Who You Are

  • High-trajectory operator: You thrive in fast-paced environments and want to learn how strategic decisions are made in a product organization.
  • Organizational athlete: You bring structure to ambiguity, clarity to chaos, and always stay three steps ahead.
  • Proactive problem-solver: You stay one step ahead, anticipating needs and moving work forward without waiting for direction. You bring solutions, not just questions.
  • Judgment-driven: You know how to prioritize, who to loop in, and when to make the call yourself.
  • Detail-obsessed: You catch the small things that save hours later — in calendars, emails, decks, and logistics.
  • Systems thinker: You instinctively create repeatable processes where others see ad hoc chaos.
  • Collaborative connector: You work seamlessly across functions, personalities, and seniorities.
  • Driven by impact: You’re here to make the team faster, sharper, and more focused on what matters most.

What You'll Do

  • Orchestrate the operating rhythm of the Product org — managing the annual calendar, key deliverables, and the systems that keep leadership aligned and moving fast.
  • Provide direct leverage to the VP of Product and Chief Communications Officer through proactive calendar strategy, communication flow, and operational support. You’ll anticipate conflicts before they happen and create the conditions for high-value time.
  • Elevate team execution by coordinating meetings, follow-ups, and cross-functional workstreams that bridge between Product, Design, Communications, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Bring structure to ambiguity — turning loosely defined ideas into actionable next steps, timelines, and artifacts that drive accountability.
  • Build and refine systems that improve how the organization plans, communicates, and operates.
  • Represent Product and Communications leadership with professionalism, discretion, and judgment in all internal and external interactions.

Location and Travel Requirements

  • Must be based near Denver, CO / surrounding areas or Columbus, OH
  • Regular in-person work sessions with VP of Product and Chief Communications Officer (in Denver or Columbus) are required up to twice per month
  • Travel up to twice per quarter for team onsites and company events is required

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of professional experience, ideally in fast-paced operations, coordination, or early-stage startups
  • Exceptional organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex calendars and prioritize across competing needs
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and modern productivity tools
  • Proven discretion and judgment in handling confidential information
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

As part of Root's interview process, we kindly ask that all candidates be on camera for virtual interviews. This helps us create a more personal and engaging experience for both you and our interviewers. Being on camera is a standard requirement for our process and part of how we assess fit and communication style, so we do require it to move forward with any applicant's candidacy. If you have any concerns, feel free to let us know once you are contacted. We’re happy to talk it through.
