YOUR MISSION

We are hiring a forward-thinking, hands-on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the design, execution, and continuous improvement of EHS programs at both our Long Beach, CA and Centennial, CO locations. This individual will be instrumental in developing scalable, compliant, and startup-grade safety systems from scratch, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards across multiple jurisdictions while cultivating a high-integrity safety culture. The role includes reporting key performance indicators (KPIs), safety trends, and incidents to senior leadership to drive accountability and strategic alignment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Implementation

  • Build and manage full-spectrum EHS programs for hardware development, manufacturing, and testing at both locations.
  • Draft and implement policies that comply with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, CDPHE, RCRA, DOT, ATF, and local regulations.
  • Standardize safety procedures and documentation across both sites while allowing for local regulatory nuance.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Serve as liaison to regulatory agencies including SCAQMD, EKAPCD, CDPHE, CUPAs, and the EPA.
  • Lead permitting for hazardous waste, air emissions, and explosive materials at both CA and CO facilities.
  • Maintain compliance with California Title 22 hazardous waste requirements and manage multi-jurisdictional regulatory programs.
  • Ensure all CUPA-related compliance (HMBPs, USTs, hazardous materials inventory) is current and audit-ready.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and implement mitigation strategies at both sites.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Develop and maintain site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), evacuation procedures, and response training for both offices.
  • Coordinate evacuation drills and emergency exercises tailored to the risks of each location.

Training and Culture Development

  • Build and sustain a proactive safety culture across all functions.
  • Design, develop, and deliver EHS training materials and documentation specific to work environments, hazards, and compliance needs.
  • Establish and lead safety committees at both locations to enhance employee engagement and hazard reporting.

Metrics, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor, analyze, and report KPIs, near misses, and incident trends to the upper chain of command, including senior and executive leadership.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for all incidents.
  • Use EHS data to identify patterns, ensure accountability, and drive ongoing safety improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of EHS experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing, with multi-site leadership preferred.
  • Deep working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8, Colorado EHS regulations, and relevant federal programs (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, ATF).
  • Extensive experience managing California hazardous waste programs under Title 22, including generator standards, manifesting, and storage compliance.
  • Proven experience with CUPA agencies, including preparation of Hazardous Materials Business Plans (HMBPs) and regulatory inspections.
  • Strong experience creating and delivering technical EHS training materials and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in startup environments with limited structure.
  • Expertise in hazardous materials handling, PPE strategies, LOTO, chemical safety, and job hazard analysis.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare and present safety metrics to executive stakeholders.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certifications: OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40, Cal/OSHA 510 or 511, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent.
  • Experience as an ATF Responsible Person or liaison.
  • Knowledge of explosive safety protocols, TRR documentation, and international compliance (e.g., ITAR, UK regulations).
  • Familiarity with EHS systems such as Brady Link360, MaintainX, or similar platforms.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead across departments and geographic locations.

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary:  $110,000 - $190,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave 

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Denver or Long Beach. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
