Harper is a high-performance distributed application platform. It combines a database, in-memory cache, and real-time message broker to allow users to create enterprise-grade solutions with fewer moving parts, fewer lines of code, and a superior developer experience.

We are seeking a highly skilled Enterprise Architect to serve as the trusted technical advisor for our enterprise customers after the sale is closed. This role is responsible for ensuring that complex enterprise solutions are successfully implemented, optimized, and aligned with the customer’s strategic goals.

This isn’t a “point and talk” role. You’ll be in the code, solving complex problems, and collaborating directly with customer development teams to architect and deliver game-changing solutions for our largest  enterprise customers. You’ll be the trusted technical authority post-sale, ensuring our platform is deployed at scale, tuned for peak performance, and aligned to mission-critical business objectives.

This is not a first-time enterprise role — we’re looking for someone who’s been here before: delivering mission-critical architectures for Fortune 500 and large-scale enterprise customers, guiding senior engineering teams through complex integrations, and making high-stakes technical decisions with confidence.

If you thrive on designing elegant solutions for gnarly technical challenges, can jump from a whiteboard session to a terminal window without missing a beat, and want to be the person our biggest customers rely on, this is your stage. You will bridge the gap between technical delivery and customer business outcomes—driving adoption, ensuring architectural integrity, and fostering long-term partnerships. Working closely with customer success, product, and engineering teams, you will guide enterprise customers through onboarding, integration, performance tuning, and solution evolution.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Engagement & Technical Advisory
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for enterprise accounts.
  • Work directly with customer architects, engineers, and stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions.
  • Build credibility through hands-on expertise, trust-based relationships, and consistently delivering results.
Solution Implementation & Architecture
  • Lead solution design reviews and validate architecture decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and security.
  • Oversee deployment, configuration, and integration activities, ensuring a smooth transition from sales to production.
Recommend best practices for system architecture, API usage, data flows, and integration patterns.
  • Lead architecture reviews and personally contribute to design and code where needed.
  • Oversee deployment, integration, and configuration — ensuring zero surprises when moving to production.
  • Define and document best practices for APIs, microservices, data flows, and distributed architectures.
Ongoing Optimization & Success
  • Conduct regular architecture health checks and performance reviews.
  • Anticipate scaling, security, or performance issues before they impact production.
  • Proactively recommend and guide feature adoption to keep customers ahead of the curve.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Technical AccountManagers to track customer objectives and measure success metrics.
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to relay customer feedback and influence roadmap priorities.
  • Assist with technical enablement for customer teams, including workshops, architecture diagrams, and best-practice guides.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent.
  • 10-12+ years in a post-sales, solutions architecture, or enterprise technical consulting role or a combination of these.
  • Significant experience and a proven track record working with Fortune 500 and large enterprise customers.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and hybrid environments.
  • Expertise in data management, distributed systems, or application performance optimization.
  • Extensive understanding and experience with Node.js, at least six years, with a focus on building scalable solutions.
Deep understanding of APIs, microservices, and integration architectures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Harper.
  • Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent.
  • Open source contributor, code or otherwise, to the wider JavaScript ecosystem. Node.js/OpenJS Foundation community preferred, but not required.
Key Competencies
  • Customer-first mindset with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex environments.
Ability to handle multiple high-priority customers simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinking with attention to detail.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage small groups, large audiences, technical stakeholders, and executive leadership.
  • Strong documentation and visualization abilities, including creating clear, concise diagrams and written materials that simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with technical influencers and key stakeholders within customer organizations.
  • High levels of energy, enthusiasm, and engagement, with a demonstrated ability to inspire excitement and foster positive interactions across teams and audiences.
