LiveKit is building the infrastructure layer for the voice-driven era of computing. Our platform gives developers everything they need to build, test, deploy, scale, and observe agents in production. Founded in 2021, LiveKit powers voice AI applications for OpenAI, xAI, Salesforce, Coursera, Spotify, and thousands of others, collectively facilitating billions of calls each year.
About This Role:Most companies hire someone to maintain a billing system. We need someone to rebuild one — and that's a meaningfully different job. You're an engineer first. You can write the integrations, own the infrastructure, and wire up the systems — not just configure dropdowns in a UI. But you also understand that your real customers are in Finance and RevOps, and you take data accuracy as seriously as uptime.
You'll thrive as a Billing Systems Engineer if you:
obsess with crafting code that is fast, reliable and practical for the problem
are known as the go-to person for tackling tough technical problems
work hard and can build and ship fast
can clearly explain complex technical concepts to others
are a fast learner, frequently picking up new languages and tools
The best way to impress us is with thoughtful Issues and/or PRs on our Github repos 😊
What You'll Do:Own the end-to-end billing system overhaul — CPQ configuration, quote-to-cash integration, billing platform wiring, ERP sync, and everything in between
Design and build the integrations that connect LiveKit's product usage events to our billing platform, ensuring metered and consumption-based billing is accurate and auditable
Establish change control, deployment practices, and audit trails for all billing-critical systems under your ownership
Partner closely with Finance, RevOps, and Analytics to define data contracts and validate that billing outputs are correct — every time
Build systems that can absorb pricing model changes, new product lines, and volume growth without requiring heroic one-off engineering
Hands-on experience building integrations across CPQ, billing platforms (Metronome, Orb, Chargebee, or similar), and ERP systems — not just configuring them, but engineering the data flows between them
Familiarity with quote-to-cash workflows and where they break in practice
Treat billing-critical systems like production infrastructure: version-controlled, tested, deployed through a proper CI/CD pipeline, and monitored with observability tooling
Strong change management discipline — you think in terms of safe deploys, rollback strategies, and audit trails, not just "push and see"
Comfortable owning systems under Finance-grade accuracy requirements, with the rigor to back it up
Strong enough technically to build and maintain the integrations yourself, strong enough cross-functionally to be a trusted partner for Finance and RevOps stakeholders
Experience with usage-based, consumption, or event-driven billing models
Prior greenfield billing system build — you've designed one, not just inherited one
Familiarity with modern usage-based billing platforms like Orb or Metronome
You're the person who actually checks whether the numbers are right — not because someone asked, but because wrong data keeps you up at night
The opportunity to shape the brand of a fast-growing developer platform
Collaboration with a small, senior team that deeply values craft and creativity
Competitive salary and equity package
Health, dental, and vision benefits
Flexible vacation policy
