Flex is building a finance super app for premium business owners — reimagining every single aspect of the financial workflow and financial services for any entrepreneur. The company has grown revenue 25x+ since publicly launching in September 2023 and is on track to achieve profitability by late 2025. Flex is focused on mid-market businesses ($3 - $100M revenue) that are largely overlooked by existing fintech solutions and reliant on slow and outdated regional banks. We are targeting a ~$1T revenue opportunity that is largely up for grabs.
Flex is a fully remote company and this role can be performed from anywhere.
🕺About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team building payments and banking infrastructure at Flex. This role requires both strong people leadership and hands-on technical expertise. You'll guide your team's technical direction, grow their careers, and roll up your sleeves to write code alongside them when necessary.
You'll be responsible for delivering high-availability services that process thousands of transactions daily. Our customers, regulators, and business partners depend on systems that work reliably, and your job is to make sure your team consistently delivers.
✅ What You’ll Do
- Ownership: You own your team's delivery and growth. You translate business needs into clear technical direction for your engineers, ensuring they understand both what to build and why it matters. You provide regular coaching and feedback to help your team members advance their careers. You manage 4-7 direct reports and handle their performance reviews, goal setting, and career development.
- Product Sense: You connect your team's technical work to user outcomes and business metrics. You track both engineering velocity and product success, helping your team understand how their code creates customer value.
- Helping Flex Win: You ensure your team consistently delivers high-quality features on time. You create an environment where your engineers can do their best work, removing obstacles and providing the context they need to make good decisions.\
- Ensure your team can predictably deliver results against company objectives
- Coach the team to a high level of technical excellence and stability
- Have the confidence and competence to give feedback to engineers of all skill levels
- Onboard new engineering hiresAlign engineering work with Flex values
- Work alongside other product experts to pick the highest-impact projects
- Collaborate with other teams to build a more cohesive product as simply as possible

- Ability to lead a technical team
- Have experience with payments systems, banking infrastructure, or money movement platforms
- Be familiar with our tech stack - full stack Typescript, or have an interest in learning it
- Ability to navigate internal stakeholders, manage production releases, and be there when shit hits the fan.
- Have the ability to fight complexity and run towards ambiguity.
