What You Will Do

You will lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, translating business priorities into clear goals while fostering a culture of collaboration and growth. Acting as both coach and partner, you’ll mentor engineers, support technical decisions, and champion best practices that drive consistency and execution. You’ll build alignment across teams, remove blockers to maintain momentum, and help shape the future of the organization through hiring, culture, and strategic initiatives.

How You Will Spend Your Days

  • Set weekly priorities by representing your engineering team in company planning sessions, sharing status updates, recommending deliverables, and advocating for new ideas from your team.
  • Allocate engineering resources based on agreed priorities and ensure the right projects receive the right attention.
  • Guide execution by tracking work throughout the week, tightening scope when needed, and ensuring projects are deliverable within agreed timelines.
  • Balance planned and unplanned work by triaging customer issues and Sales requests quickly, while capturing unplanned items for future follow-up.
  • Maintain system health by reviewing monitoring dashboards, identifying technical liabilities, and recommending investments in stability and performance.
  • Assess and improve team effectiveness by monitoring velocity, scoping challenges, and advising on hiring, project organization, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Marketing, and executives to align on priorities and build trust.
  • Shape long-term strategy in partnership with other Engineering leaders, including contributing to hiring plans and initiatives that strengthen culture, collaboration, and execution.

What You Bring to this Role

  • Proven leadership experience managing engineers across levels, including Staff+ engineers, and adapting to different working styles.
  • Hands-on technical background with IC experience building and scaling software systems.
  • Growth-stage experience, having thrived as an engineer or manager during periods of rapid company expansion.
  • High standards for engineering excellence, with the ability to assess team performance, provide constructive feedback, and raise the bar.
  • Technical depth and curiosity, able to quickly understand complex systems and dive into implementation details when needed.
  • Vision and advocacy, bringing a strong technical perspective for your team’s work and aligning stakeholders around that vision.
  • Focus on effectiveness, with awareness of modern tools, practices, and approaches that improve engineering velocity and quality.
  • Talent-building skills, hiring with both urgency and quality while applying lessons learned from past team-building successes and challenges.

Compensation for this position includes an annual base salary of $180,000 to $210,000, with eligibility to participate in our Employee Participation Unit program.

Alchemer provides a rich benefits package that includes health and disability coverages, an incredible 401(k) option that includes a per-payroll match and immediate vesting, unlimited time off and twelve paid company holidays.

Alchemer is taking applications for this position from candidates who are legally authorized to work in the US and do not require now, or in the future, immigration sponsorship for work authorization.

At Alchemer, we're committed to attracting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce, and infusing DEI throughout all of our internal practices. By ensuring that everyone is able to bring a diversity of talents to work, we're increasingly capable of living out our mission in helping our clients. We encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds and all walks of life to apply.

Don’t meet all the requirements? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification listed. Don’t let that stop you! We encourage you to apply if you have some of the requirements listed. You may bring qualities that we’re looking for in other areas. Building a diverse, inclusive, and customer centric workplace is important to us at Alchemer. If you’re excited about this role and your experience doesn’t perfectly align, we encourage you to apply anyway. Let’s talk!
