The Engineering Manager role is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned developer and leader to make a significant impact both technically and strategically. Reporting to the Director of Product and Development, you’ll guide a team of talented developers, fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation. You’ll be a key player in shaping the team's technical direction, ensuring successful project delivery, and mentoring team members to help them advance in their careers. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, you’ll align engineering priorities with business goals, define clear roadmaps, and implement modern development practices to enhance efficiency and productivity.
At the same time, you’ll remain deeply involved in the hands-on aspects of software development. You’ll design, build, and maintain scalable web applications using Rails, produce secure and maintainable code, and create integrations with third-party APIs to extend the product's functionality. You'll play a vital role in maintaining technical excellence by reviewing code, solving complex technical challenges, and ensuring the software meets both current and future needs. This role is perfect for someone passionate about balancing technical leadership with the joy of building software that delights customers and supports the success of a growing team.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Manager and mentor a team of developers, providing guidance, support, and fostering skill development.
- Collaborate with product to estimate the scoped work and build out the Product Roadmap.
- Track and manage team capacity and velocity based on workload
- Maintain infrastructure and technical services the company uses, including billing and IT changes (as needed) to be SOC-2 Compliant
- Last line of defense of server availability (outages, incidents, etc.)
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and systems using Rails.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
- Write, review, and ensure code quality, focusing on security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Build and maintain integrations with third-party APIs to enhance product functionality.
- Implement and promote modern development practices, including pair coding and continuous learning.
- Oversee performance management, including setting goals, providing feedback, and conducting reviews.
- Stay current with industry trends and apply innovative technologies to improve processes and products.
- Leverage practical AI expertise to identify, evaluate, and integrate AI-driven features and tools that improve product functionality, development workflows, and operational efficiency.
- Use the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) framework to guide development and enhance workflows.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of full-stack web development using Ruby on Rails.
- 2+ years in an engineering management or leadership role.
- Proficiency in designing RESTful APIs and interfacing with third-party services.
- Experience with modern tools such as Docker, StimulusJS, Tailwind, and Redis.
- Demonstrated ability to scale applications and manage large systems.
- Ability to spend time in our Denver metro office and authorization to work in the U.S.

Compensation:
Total compensation includes a salary of $168,000-$191,000 annually based on a combination of skills, experience, knowledge, and performance. The Receptionist also has a generous benefits program, the complete list of which you can review on our careers page!
