Engineering Manager – Languages and SDKs

We are looking for experienced engineering managers that are excited to bring Pulumi’s cloud programming model to the world. You will be a part of realizing a vision where every developer can harness the power of the cloud.

Pulumi makes cloud development accessible by letting teams write real code. Our Languages & SDKs group maintains the open-source libraries and core engine powering Pulumi in Go, Python, TypeScript, .NET, and more. We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to grow this team, align technical direction, and support our vibrant community.

What You’ll Do

Lead and Develop Your Team

  • Mentor and grow a distributed team of talented engineers
  • Facilitate technical career development, performance reviews, and hands-on coaching
  • Recruit top talent and create an inclusive, collaborative culture

Shape Product and Technical Strategy

  • Define and own the team roadmap in partnership with Product and Leadership
  • Translate customer and community feedback into technical priorities
  • Balance innovation (new language support, distributed systems primitives) with quality, performance, and reliability
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs: backwards compatibility, performance, test coverage, and API ergonomics

Drive Delivery and Quality

  • Oversee project planning: set clear milestones, manage cross-functional dependencies, and remove blockers
  • Establish and reinforce best practices for design reviews, automated testing, performance benchmarking, and documentation
  • Monitor team metrics (velocity, quality, support trends) and continuously iterate on process

Champion Open Source Engagement

  • Represent Pulumi within the open source community and with paying customers
  • Triage issues and pull requests, ensuring timely responses and clear guidelines
  • Champion an open, transparent release cadence and clear upgrade paths

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with other engineering teams to surface SDK requirements and API coverage gaps
  • Partner with Support and Customer Success on critical bug fixes and escalations

Qualifications

  • 8+ years leading software engineering teams and mentoring senior-level talent
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and shipping SDKs or language integrations
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code
  • Strong problem-solving skills: first-principles thinking, graph algorithms, dependency resolution
  • Excellent communicator able to engage engineers, product teams, and executives
  • Preferred: open source contributor: triaged issues, reviewed PRs, and built community engagement
Compensation:
  • Base Salary Hiring Range: $180,500 - $227,850
  • All full-time employee offers at Pulumi include base salary, bonus or variable, equity and benefits (details below).
