Lithic is hiring an Engineering Manager for our Infrastructure Team. The day-to-day work is a blend of operational and project work, with occasional incident management. At Lithic, we have adopted a DevOps model where teams own their own infrastructure and the infrastructure team owns the tooling and governance that allows teams to do this effectively and safely. In this role, you will focus on running the team-building shared tooling that helps to ensure that the easy way is also the right way. This role is a player/coach role and will involve some (20% - 30%) individual contribution.

We run our services and infrastructure primarily in AWS but maintain an on-prem footprint where necessary to serve our partners. Our infrastructure is maintained as infrastructure as code in a blend of Pulumi, Terraform, and Ansible. Our infrastructure services are implemented in Rust while the company also has python, typescript, java, and kotlin. This is an opportunity to build next generation payments infrastructure at a fast growing start-up.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the front-line manager for the infrastructure team
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support career development through coaching and one-on-ones
  • Align team priorities with organizational goals
  • Coordinate the efforts of a strong senior team as they balance the needs of providing cloud tooling, shared services, on-prem infrastructure, SRE consulting, and observability to teams
  • Manage annual compliance evidence collection for SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS
  • Manage our IT staff and function
  • Manage our cloud infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading a team (3+ years, minimum)
  • Demonstrated experience in SRE and/or SWE, ideally some track record with the other
  • Solid understanding of cloud systems, Linux systems, & networking
  • Experience with Relational Databases (Postgres in particular is a plus)
  • Demonstrated expertise in SRE principles, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and reliability engineering
  • Ability to write clear, maintainable, thoughtfully commented code
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders at all levels, building strong relationships and fostering a culture of trust and accountability
  • Familiarity with strongly typed languages such as Rust or Golang and scripting languages like Python (past Rust experience a plus)
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure is required (experience with AWS strongly preferred)
  • Experience running on-prem infrastructure is a plus (we are hybrid, having some components that we are required to self-host)
  • The ability to balance getting stuff done with craftsmanship

Base salary range for US candidates: $212,000 - $250,000

Benefits
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance; HSA Contribution Match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 401(k) match
  • Voluntary Life Insurance and AD&D
  • 3% cashback on all Privacy purchases
  • 12-weeks fully paid parental leave
  • Work From Anywhere: work from anywhere in the world 4-weeks each year

We believe in-person collaboration boosts creativity, communication, and agility, which are key to our growth. Employees in the NYC area are asked to work from our SoHo office three days a week - Tuesdays and Thursdays are core in-office days - the third is flexible.

In-office employees receive:

  • $50/month towards your commute
