Job Description
Technical & Programmatic leadership position for a Systems Engineer with experience leading teams in multi-domain environments. Need to be creative, flexible, and comfortable handling many diverse and sometimes open-ended assignments. The applicant will work with program leadership, customers, vendors, and other business areas to ensure on-time deliverables of hardware and software products. Updating processes and tools for the sector will be a function of this position.
As a Technical Engineering Manager in the Systems Engineering department, your focus will be on ensuring the coordinated growth of this technical area for the program and the sector at large.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide systems engineering leadership of technical teams to define architectures for complex systems including spacecraft, instruments, ground, and missions
  • Provide technical and contractual oversight of subcontract partners
  • Monitor/evaluate subcontractor performance and support supply chain in administering contracts
  • Support programs in executing and meeting customer requirements
  • Manage cost/schedule/scope and maintain program's ability to meet mission
  • Interface with customer and implement continuous improvements to ensure mission success
  • Support management reviews, including required LCM reporting through appropriate SBU leadership chains
  • Objectively define, execute, and report on trade studies that provide data for decision making to our customers
  • Develop metrics to evaluate concepts that represent mission utility for the customer
  • Mentor other systems engineers in mission systems engineering and architecture development
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers/management/customers
  • Provide technical leadership and direction by exhibiting behaviors that would include a unifying vision, understanding the diverse needs of our SBUs, and acting with humility and a collaborative spirit.
  • Support cross-enterprise communication and collaboration to provide best practices and institutional knowledge to all pursuits.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with Engineering peers, internal stakeholders, and external customers.
  • Evolve cross-sector relationships and technical capabilities with other BAE Inc. groups.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI.
  • Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Ability to drive software delivery/release and implement efficiencies to improve performance and reduce time to market.
  • Ability to create tools and foster culture of collaboration across teams (company, partner, customer).
  • Define and refine internal processes and procedures in alignment with customer needs. Provide internal BAE Systems team training to ensure alignment with standard operating procedures.
  • Customer Relationships: Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Experience in space-based systems engineering or ground-based systems engineering.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • Possess strong critical thinking skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Comfortable operating at a fast pace.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Budgeting/cost estimating experience.
  • Excellent customer service, accountability, professionalism, and interpersonal skill set.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $153377 - $260743
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
