Job Description
At BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems we develop and manufacture state of the art space hardware supporting our Military, National, and Civil space customers. If you'd like to join our rapidly growing Operational Engineering and Planning team in that mission, this could be an ideal role for you. In this role, you will interface with a dynamic organization dedicated to delivering innovative and high-quality products.
We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager to support the piece part fabrication team. In this position you would be responsible for developing/implementing the functional plans required to meet program execution objectives. To accomplish this, the manager leads a team of Manufacturing Engineers and Planners as they navigate hardware builds through mechanical piece part fabrication and secondary operations. This role is responsible for ensuring production schedules are met, cost targets are managed effectively, and quality and safety standards are consistently upheld. The right candidate will be a proactive leader with strong experience in fabrication processes, direct supervision, employee development, and continuous improvement.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for budget planning, personnel management and execution of employee support through the full program lifecycle of programs for both flight and non-flight space products.
  • Engage in strategic planning activities for manufacturing department.
  • Functional Management:
    • Provide functional management to direct reports including performance management, recognition, coaching/mentoring, career development, and corrective action.
    • Own staffing assignments for direct reports and forecast staffing needs. Work with other functional manager/supervisors on staffing assignments and growth.
    • Participate in the hiring process for the department.
    • Maintains and ensures compliance to Over Head financial plans; accountable for area budgets Maintain training materials.
    • Ensure that new employees receive orientation on company policies and procedures (on-boarding) and sub-department specific training.
    • Monitor and approve time charging for direct reports.
  • Engage in the risk management process (risks and opportunities) including continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Embrace and promote use of Lean and 6-sigma tools / techniques where justified.
  • Effective interface with internal/external customers and BAE management.
  • Ensure that all business is conducted with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.
  • Work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires conceptual thinking and an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives.
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment (people and hardware).
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS/BA in related field plus 10 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • As this position requires operating a company vehicle, an offer and subsequent employment are contingent upon possessing and maintaining a valid US driver's license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
  • 4 or more years previous supervisory/management experience.
  • Interviewing experience.

  • Knowledge of safety for people and hardware.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
