Position Description: 

The Engineering Manager, Data Platform will manage a small, semi-distributed group of engineers and function as a player-coach, contributing 40% of their time as a senior engineer on the PAR Retail data team. This role involves code review, pairing, mentoring, and strategic collaboration to build resilient and extensible systems.

What We’re Looking For:

Requirements:

• 5+ years as a leader in software development, preferably at a SaaS company

• Programming: Python, SQL, Terraform

• Data Modeling: Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and practices

• Big Data Technologies: Databricks, Spark, Structured Streaming

• Databases: Relational (Postgres) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) databases

• Monitoring & Observability: DataDog

• Cloud Platforms: AWS or Azure and their data solutions

• AI Integration: Demonstrated experience with implementing AI-driven analysis tools into data pipelines

• Data Governance: Understanding data privacy, security, and governance practices

• Version Control: Git, GitHub

• Demonstrable experience as a leader in geographically distributed teams building SaaS products

• Strong interpersonal and people-management skills, excellent written and verbal communication

• Strong sensibility for “keeping it simple” and managing systems complexity

• Experience as a senior-level hands-on contributor with deep knowledge of software engineering best practices

• Comfort and experience with interacting with internal leadership and technical counterparts

• Experience with Open Commerce platform technologies and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

• Manage a small, semi-distributed group of engineers

• Contribute 40% of time as a senior engineer on the PAR Retail data team

• Engage in code review, pairing, and presentational activities

• Develop technical and career growth plans for engineering reports

• Hold regular 1-1 meetings and provide hands-on coaching

• Participate in professional development activities

• Collaborate with peers and Director of Software Development to improve engineering processes

• Support recruiting efforts

• Mentor engineers to build leadership capacity

• Foster a strong team culture focused on collaboration and product

• Advocate for engineering team needs across the organization

• Assist with technical investigations and code development

• Collaborate with Product organization on roadmap and strategic direction

• Support scoping, estimation, and product feature definition
