The Engineering Manager leads a full-stack team focused on optimizing Airbnb's Checkout process, collaborating with cross-functional partners to enhance the guest experience and maintain high engineering quality.
The summary above was generated by AI

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Checkout team is a critical team within the Booking & Pricing (B&P) organization. Booking & Pricing has a wide array of mission critical responsibilities across the Guest and Host experience including merchandising listings, enabling Booking and Reservation Management and managing pricing & calendar systems.

As the Engineering Manager for Checkout, you will lead the team responsible for Airbnb’s Checkout online APIs and user experience across all platforms. The team’s work enables guests to seamlessly complete a booking and ensure Airbnb's core transaction is fast, trustworthy, and conversion-optimized at every step. In addition to working with other engineering organizations, you will be responsible for closely collaborating with cross-functional partners in Product Marketing, Design and Data Science.

The community you will join

Checkout sits at the critical intersection of guest intent and a completed transaction - the moment where trust in Airbnb is either earned or lost. The team builds and is responsible for the end-to-end booking flow, from pricing presentation and payment processing to booking confirmation, ensuring that every guest experiences a smooth path to securing their purchase. Success here requires close collaboration with partners across Payments, Trust, Pricing, and other Product teams to deliver systems that are fast and reliable at scale. You'll join a team that holds itself to a high bar on engineering quality, takes ownership of outcomes that directly impact Airbnb's top line, and operates with a culture of rigor, transparency, and shared accountability.

The difference you will make

As a B&P Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a full-stack team of talented, diverse software developers to enable and optimize a best-in-class Booking experience that scales across all of Airbnb’s current and future product offerings. As a leader, you will:

  • Proactively influence cross-functional partners and teams to align on deliverables that meet our Guests’ needs while improving the technical quality of the Booking system
  • Lead a full-stack team of 10–14 highly motivated engineers by setting a high technical bar while actively investing in each engineer's  growth and career trajectory
Day-to-day responsibilities
  • Lead the organizational and technical direction of the team: proactively share context to help the team connect the dots of their work with broader company initiatives
  • Build a robust team by attracting top talent, mentoring individuals and regularly providing feedback
  • Nurture a culture of technical quality from design, through code review, to production
  • Collaborate with internal teams and cross-functional partners to gain agreement by developing and communicating a clear and impactful vision and priorities for the team
  • Implement an execution framework that detects problems early and enables thoughtful planning, tracking and reporting on the work of the team
Your expertise
  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, with 8+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and teams across the engineering organization
  • Passionate about building intuitive and delightful products to solve real user problems while maintaining a high technical quality bar
  • Track record of growing engineers through promotion, meaningful scope expansion, or career pivots
  • Strong problem solver that has led a team operating large scale, mission critical production systems
Preferred qualifications
