We are seeking a talented and experienced BI Engineering Manager to lead and optimize our Business Intelligence (BI) engineering team. This role is critical in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization by overseeing the design, development, implementation of BI systems and solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of BI tools and technologies, and a strategic mindset to align BI initiatives with business goals. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of BI engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring professional growth and skill development. 

  • BI Strategy: Develop and implement the BI strategy, aligning with the organization’s business objectives and driving improvements in data analysis and reporting capabilities. 

  • Project Management: Oversee the delivery of BI projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring, ensuring timely and within-budget completion. 

  • Technical Oversight: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of BI solutions, including data warehouses, data lake query engines, data models, and ETL tools. 

  • Collaboration: Work closely with data engineering, data product managers, and other stakeholders across departments to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable BI solutions. Ability to proactively define the long-term vision and strategy that will offer the correct data to support our external data requests, unlocking key data visibility and insights. 

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of data within BI systems, implementing best practices and industry standards. 

  • Innovation: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance BI capabilities. 

 

Skills and Experience Required 

 

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Professional Experience: 6+ years of experience in BI engineering or related roles, with minimum 2 years in a managerial or team lead position.  

  • 4+ years of working with exceptionally large data warehousing environment experience 

  • 7+ years of data warehouse technical architectures, data modeling, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools and environments, data structures and hands-on SQL coding experience. 

  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SQL, data warehousing, ETL processes, and data modeling; preferred to have familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. 

  • Leadership: Proven record in managing and mentoring a team, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. 

  • Analytical Abilities: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights. 

  • Project Management: Experience in managing projects using methodologies such as Agile or Scrum. 

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 

 

Key Performance Metrics 

 

  • Project Delivery: Timeliness and quality of BI and Analytics projects delivered, including adherence to deadlines and budget constraints. 

  • Team Performance: Team productivity and engagement metrics, including individual and team development progress. 

  • Data Accuracy: Accuracy and reliability of data within BI systems, with minimal errors or issues reported. 

  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Feedback from internal stakeholders regarding the effectiveness and usefulness of BI solutions and support. 

  • Innovation Adoption: Successful implementation of new BI tools, technologies, or methodologies that enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities. 

  • Operational Efficiency: Improvements in operational processes related to BI, including data processing times and resource utilization.

Compensation:

The compensation for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 USD per year in most US locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including location, local market variances, and candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
