This position is for an early-career system engineer who can work in, and grow to lead, a multi-disciplinary team to develop, maintain, verify and communicate the architecture and requirements baseline for a mission that includes Segment, Element (payload, spacecraft bus, and ground) and/or Subsystems. You will work within your program teams alongside specialty engineers through the program life cycle to develop, and manage requirements for, different levels for various complex, high precision, and high-reliability applications. You'll work alongside our teams of design engineers, AI&T engineers, and senior leadership as your program moves through AI&T and milestone gate reviews to ensure our programs meet the customer needs in technical requirements, schedule, and cost.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide systems engineering support/leadership of technical teams in the development, verification, delivery, and operations of Missions, Segments, Elements, and Subsystems.
  • Support the proper allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels through the lifecycle of the program.
  • Interact with multiple subject matter experts across subsystems and IPTs to develop the required allocation analysis and verification artifacts.
  • Interface with and support the program's Chief System Engineer, Chief Engineer, Program Management team, and customers.
  • Support the development of expectations, preparations, and delivery for major gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR, etc.).
  • Coordinate requirements verification with I&T activities.
  • Coordinate with and assist other engineering disciplines and IPTs as assigned.
  • Learn and Use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) for the development of system architecture, requirements traceability, and interface management.
  • Mentor other system engineers assigned to the team.
  • Support the program Risk & Opportunity Management and ERB processes.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance is required with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI Polygraph.
  • Related experience in either mission systems, spacecraft systems, ground systems or payloads preferred.
  • Experience using requirements database tools (DOORS, Jama, Cameo Requirements Modeler, e.g.)
  • Experience with Cameo System Modeler, SysML and DoWAF/UAF/UPDM.
  • The ability to work with and lead multi-disciplinary teams to meet cost, schedule, and performance goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to review effective and verifiable requirements - detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering processes, including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation - a self-starter that will own this activity with the proper guidance.
  • Good presentation skills with experience presenting to senior decision making and technical audiences.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Polygraph is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a multi-disciplinary team throughout the program lifecycle including the AI&T campaign on a spacecraft or payload program.
  • Customer Relationships: extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base, established relationships with key personnel within customer community.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $79365 - $134921
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
