Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, development planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape the future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including US Space Force, U.S Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. DSG also assists the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.
Aerospace is currently accepting applications for a Project Leader position supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Next Generation Interceptor program. The selected candidate will work with a combined team of government, private contractors, FFRDC/UARC, and SETA personnel performing programmatic, mission assurance reviews, engineering design and development, system production and fielding the interceptor to advance the US Missile Defense Capabilities. Frequent interaction with other MDA Directorate personnel, contractors, subcontractors, and vendor personnel is expected.

This is a full-time position based in Huntsville AL.
Work Model

  • Directly work with government programs to identify design, production, test, and fielding issues of electronic subsystems and components, and to develop feasible and timely mitigation efforts, identify risks and lead risk assessment development.
  • Coordinate subject matter experts to provide technical advisory services to the Missile Defense Agency Next Generation Interceptor program office.
  • Coordinate the development, approval, and delivery of Aerospace technical reviews and reports associated with tasks assigned by MDA.
  • Conduct technical analysis and review of new interceptor systems design, development, test, production, fielding, and post flight data.
  • Conduct independent reviews of interceptor electronic unit, sub-system, and system development, acceptance, and qualification testing protocols, technical reports, and analysis reports.
  • Participate in missile system major milestone readiness assessments.
  • Participate in missile risk, system failure, engineering change, manufacturing, configuration, and qualification review boards


What You Need to be Successful - Project Leader
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an appropriate engineering, physics, mathematics, or equivalent technical disciplines such as aerospace, electrical, industrial, mechanical, or systems
  • 6 or more years of applicable technical experience
  • Experience with electrical and electronic system analysis and design.
  • Experience coordinating and leading multidiscipline technical teams formed to solve complex technical aerospace issues.
  • Familiarity with Military, SMC, and Industry testing standards applicable to launch vehicles
  • Experience speaking and presenting technical material to government engineers and leaders.
  • Experience supporting Failure Review Boards, providing risk assessments, developing feasible mitigation paths.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • This position requires an Active SECRET security clearance, which is issued by the US government. US Citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or related technical field.
  • Experience with the design of digital circuits, analog circuits, power systems, and with electromagnetic environment effects.
  • Experience Supporting the Missile Defense Agency Next Generation Interceptor, Targets and Counter Measure, or Quality, Safety and Mission Assurance programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment, tasking matrixed engineers, and scientists to complete program tasks
  • Experience tailoring and developing acceptance or qualification tests based on SMC-S-016
