BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) is expanding our expertise to provide exciting and challenging solutions to our customers. Our spacecraft solutions team works in a fast paced, highly collaborative development environment to provide continuously evolving capabilities in space payloads. As an electrical system engineer, you will work with a team of electrical engineers through the program life cycle to develop electronic products for various complex, high precision, and high reliability applications.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.
What You'll Do:
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762

What You'll Do:
- Provide technical leadership for a multidisciplinary system team (optical, mechanical, focal plane, power, thermal, RF, software) including suppliers to create, influence and define discriminating electronics solutions involving electro-optical imaging, SoCs, mechanisms, thermal conditioning, payload control, mission data processing and power including DC-DC converter designs and products for power distribution.
- Work with subject matter experts to define space-based electronics systems and components to include focal plane interface electronics, power electronics and power conversion, single board computers, high precision thermal control including cryo systems, and FPGA based controllers.
- Lead resolution of electrical hardware anomalies at the system level and determine root cause and corrective action at the engineering development level and with flight hardware.
- Compose objective, quantifiable trade studies incorporating heritage system designs as well as new technologies and supplier capabilities to guide critical architectural decisions affecting the performance of other systems and subsystems.
- Electrical system-level modeling and simulation, analysis, trades, risk assessment, requirements derivation, allocation, and flow down leveraging, DOORs, MBSE, and various other system engineering tools.
- Maintain end-to-end electrical compatibility, functional allocations, and margins across entire system.
- Hands-on involvement in every aspect of design, development, production, and test.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks early in the design phase.
- Present analysis, findings, and design to peers, internal management, and customers throughout program phases (Proposal, IBR, SRR, PDR, CDR, IV&V).
- Develop electronics to quality and reliability standards for NASA, NOAA, DoW, and classified customers.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Robust problem solving, decision making (related to cost, schedule, technical and risk), and closure skills (dedication to close open items/issues) to ensure mission success.
- Presentation skills and ability to communicate complex concepts to widely varying audiences.
- Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very complex problems and implement constructive changes.
- Working knowledge of interface and design documentation, such as functional block diagrams, PCB design, layout, and fabrication documentation skills.
- Detailed design experience in analog circuit, digital circuits, FPGA, PCB Layout, and electronics packaging.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience in creating and delivering aerospace electronics systems and subsystems.
- Experience in creating and delivering space-based electronics systems and subsystems.
- Technical competence in the following areas: ROIC photodetector arrays, motor drives including 3 phase, voice coils and steppers along with associated feedback including resolvers and encoders, general analog circuitry for thermal control, telemetry gathering and transistor biasing, FPGA closed loop control, DC-DC conversion and power distribution and harnessing along with grounding knowledge and EMI background.
- Analytical experience with WCA and Part Stress is preferred.
- Experience through the entire system lifecycle from concept, design, production, integration, test, launch, to operation support.
