What You'll Do:
- Be mentored one-on-one by multiple component and board-level reliability engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) with a secondary tier of mentoring from multiple senior and principal system-level reliability engineering SMEs, gaining familiarity with reliability requirements and reliability work products that enable mission success.
- Interface with a variety of engineering disciplines and programs across the BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector as you perform your role and develop your understanding of the industry and products.
- Learn to translate and derive written requirements from both internal and external sources into simple, straight-forward requirements.
- Learn to use the internal Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, the repository for all program documents, analysis documents, assembly and part information.
- Support the implementation of new PLM system(s).
- Under the general supervision of senior engineers and mentors, learn to perform the following component-level Reliability Engineering duties and analyses:
- Worst-Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA).
- Worst-Case Timing Analysis (WCTA).
- Parts Stress Analysis (PSA/Derating).
- Reliability Prediction.
- Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA).
- Limited Life Analysis (LLA).
- Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
- Work with a myriad of military and industrial standards required to perform all Reliability Engineering analyses and duties.
- Use manufacturer part parameter data to populate internal Reliability part variability database used in the execution of WCCA/WCTA, PSA, Reliability Prediction, and LLA.
- Become proficient in manual and SPICE software schematic analysis to assist in the performance of WCCA/WCTA and PSA.
- Train in the use of mathematical analysis software (e.g., Mathcad, MATLAB, etc.) to perform complex Monte Carlo simulations for use in WCCA/WCTA.
- Communicate with parts manufacturers to request receipt of part parameter clarifications, thermal and life test data, and custom Reliability Prediction testing results.
- Participate in the coordination and execution of multi-disciplinary working groups for performance of FMEA/FMECA, Failure Review Boards (FRBs) for FRACAS, and to streamline coordinated problem solving required by unfavorable results of other analyses.
- Contribute to failure investigations in electrical circuits that result in FRBs, through Root-Case Analysis.
- Write standardized engineering reports to deliver results of performed analyses.
- Actively participate in design and document peer-reviews to assist in making risk-informed program decisions.
- Develop a understanding of the drivers of component and system reliability requirements to help identify potential risks to the program early in the design process.
- Gain experience in system-level reliability engineering through interaction with Systems Engineering tasks:
- Participate in defining system-level Reliability Engineering requirements and review of system-level requirements that flow down to component-level Reliability analyses.
- Review of those component-level analyses listed above from external suppliers.
- Perform system-level Reliability Prediction using Windchill software suite.
- Work with Mission Assurance Managers to keep them abreast of latest developments of in-progress and completed analyses.
- Present analysis results to leadership, peers, and customers at program milestone meetings, Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Learn to communicate effectively and professionally with external customers and suppliers.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
