Annual Salary Range: $180k – $200k/year

Role Summary

INTECON is seeking a highly skilled Space Systems Engineer to support critical national security space programs. In this role, you will provide systems engineering leadership for the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) and related Space Force systems, supporting planning, development, testing, and sustainment while advising leadership on modernization activities. Your work will ensure system readiness and contribute to Space Force mission execution.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering expertise for SBIRS satellites, command-and-control systems, relay stations, and user interfaces.
  • Support the planning, development, integration, and sustainment of SBIRS enterprise components to maintain and enhance mission performance.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Space Force units and other mission partners on performance assessments, modernization initiatives, and system interoperability.
  • Support trial-phase and operational acceptance testing for SBIRS systems, ensuring upgrades meet operational readiness standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, assess engineering and programmatic risks, and recommend adjustments to maintain schedule and development progress.
  • Develop technical requirements, interface control documents, verification plans, and digital system definitions for satellite ground systems.
  • Conduct systems analyses to identify technical issues, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and propose feasible solutions.
  • Support cross-program engineering activities to ensure interoperability across related systems.
  • Apply agile and digital engineering methodologies to accelerate capability delivery and improve collaboration.
  • Support infrastructure readiness assessments and contributions to long-term modernization roadmaps for future OPIR systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience supporting SBIRS or similar space/ground system enterprises (satellite, ground station, payload, hardware/software integration).
  • 3+ years of hands-on systems engineering experience supporting DoD or U.S. Space Force programs.
  • Familiarity with SBIRS testing procedures and operational acceptance processes.
  • Knowledge of DoD or Space Force operations, acquisition, and sustainment policies.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance at the time of application.

Preferred Certifications / Experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Management, or related field.
  • Prior experience supporting a SBIRS operational unit, SBIRS program office, or equivalent missile warning mission program.
  • Systems Engineering certification (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, DAWIA).
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes.
  • Experience supporting space-based remote sensing or missile warning programs such as Next-Generation OPIR or Defense Support Program (DSP).
