Denver Health, in collaboration with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, is seeking a clinically skilled and experienced leader, educator, manager, and communicator for the position of Chief of the Division of Digestive and Liver Health to be based at Denver Health Medical Center. The Chief will have oversight of all care delivered by the Division of Digestive and Liver Health at Denver Health and will provide overall leadership within the Division. The Chief will be responsible for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance and medical education for the department.

The Chief has primary responsibility for all aspects of the scholarly and educational programs based at Denver Health and will foster collaboration, innovation and excellence in meeting our joint missions.
This GI Chief will “lead by listening” and enable and expand access to the high quality clinical services provided by the Division to populations that are currently underserved. They will lead and participate in clinical quality initiatives focused on improving the patient experience, patient safety clinical outcomes, enhancing systems to assure timeliness and efficiency and assuring quality while maintaining fiscal responsibility. In addition, they will promote and oversee development of critical pathways, protocols and practice guidelines that promote quality, cost-effective care for the patient population. They will ensure that appropriate quality improvement standards and metrics are established, maintained and reported for the GI Division

Essential Functions:
- Clinical Expectations
Enable and expand access to the high-quality clinical services provided by the Division to populations that are currently underserved.
Lead and participate in clinical quality initiatives focused on improving the patient experience, patient safety clinical outcomes, enhancing systems to assure timeliness and efficiency and assuring quality while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Promote and oversee development of critical pathways, protocols and practice guidelines that promote quality, cost-effective care for the patient population and lead efforts to optimize operational efficiency, including patient throughput, patient experience, and appropriate resource utilization within the GI Department (35%) - Academic Expectations
Mentor faculty with personalized professional development plans.
Oversight of the substance, quality, review and evaluation of graduate medical education and research programs in the Division.
Oversight of the faculty in accordance with the expectations of the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. (35%) - Administrative Expectations
Oversee the administrative, professional, clinical, financial and educational activities of the Division.
Lead the development of policies related to the Division and coordinate financial impact analysis of plans with administration.
Partners with colleagues to coordinate the activities of GI/Hepatology/Endoscopy teams.
Oversee and drive superior patient safety and peer review program.
Create, implement and maintain defined objectives for GI services for clinical improvement, growth, and the expansion of services. (30%)
Education:
- Doctorate Degree from an accredited medical school Required
Work Experience:
- 7-9 years of clinical experience with demonstrated leadership experience and evidence of leading initiatives at the division level. Previous oversight of advanced practice providers. Required
Licenses:
- ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
- NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Program - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
- PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
- MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Additional training in leadership and management desirable.
- Board Certification in primary specialty.
- Communicate effectively with a wide variety staff and as well as administration.
- Possess critical thinking, analytical and teaching/coaching skills.
- Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff while providing quality medical care, able to analyze, interpret and act upon relevant clinical and financial data that pertain to the practice.
- Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
- Ability to accept and implement change.
- Computer skills required.
