THE ROLE
We’re seeking a hands-on Director of Total Rewards to design and lead the programs that shape how our employees experience value at work. You’ll oversee and centralize all HR services - including payroll, benefits, compensation, L&D, and HRIS - while driving initiatives that support a workforce of 2,000+ exempt and non-exempt employees across the U.S., in both remote and onsite settings.
This is a high-impact, business-critical role requiring a leader who can move seamlessly between strategic vision and tactical execution: building long-term frameworks, influencing leadership decisions, and rolling up your sleeves to ensure delivery.
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, you’ll have the autonomy to make bold decisions and the flexibility to navigate ambiguity.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead and centralize HR services, including payroll, benefits, compensation, L&D, and HRIS
- Design and execute total rewards strategies that attract, retain, and engage employees
- Develop and maintain compensation structures, career frameworks, and pay practices
- Oversee benefits programs (health, retirement, wellness) to ensure competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with employee needs
- Implement and manage HR technology and HRIS systems to improve efficiency, reporting, and employee experience
- Drive change management and communication efforts to ensure the successful adoption of new programs, policies, and systems
- Build out and scale Learning & Development programs to support employee growth, career pathways, and organizational capability
- Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing HR operations team
- Ensure HR operations, payroll, and HRIS processes meet all federal, state, and local compliance requirements
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Administrative Officer and leadership team on all matters related to rewards, HR operations, and employee experience
- Flexibility to support a bicoastal business, including partnering across Eastern and Pacific time zones beyond standard local working hours when needed; routine travel to Thrive Market Fulfillment Centers, Last Mile locations & HQ.
- Demonstration of an ownership mentality with a bias toward action
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with expertise in total rewards, payroll, benefits, and HR operations
- Proven success in building and scaling programs such as compensation frameworks, benefits offerings, L&D, and HR technology from the ground up
- Experience leading initiatives for large, distributed employee populations (2,000+ employees across multiple locations preferred)
- Strong project management capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results
- Skilled in change management and communications, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
- Excellent communication skills, able to foster trust, transparency, and strong working relationships across the organization
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret HR metrics, identify trends, and develop actionable insights
- History of building and mentoring high-performing teams
- Track record of navigating compliance, audits, and regulatory requirements

- Base + Bonus Salary Range: $192,000–$222,000 per year
- Compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and location.
- Total compensation includes base salary, stock options, health & wellness benefits, flexible PTO, and more.
