This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering at BAE Systems, Inc. - Space & Mission Systems (SMS).
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. What You'll Do:
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance/direction across the TS product portfolio.
    • Responsible for the Engineering execution of the Tactical Solutions (TS) portfolio of programs and products.
    • Align Engineering around processes that meet the needs of TS business objectives and that comply with company objectives.
    • Ensure the staffing, tools, processes, and capabilities are provided to support successful execution of the TS portfolio. Ensure the needed capabilities to execute and grow the business are in good health.
    • Lead a systems engineering, integration, and test organization focused on the specific needs of the Tactical Solutions business, leveraging best system engineering practices from across engineering and the TS Business Areas.
    • Lead direct reports, indirect reports, and other colleagues in the Engineering functions that support the TS portfolio by exhibiting behaviors including providing a unifying vision, creating a collaborative environment for the Engineering team and all support functions, and acting with humility and a collaborative spirit.
    • Evaluate and define roles and responsibilities across systems engineering to create a culture of system architecting and technical portfolio management, fully integrated with test.
    • Establish, define, develop, and communicate clear standardized processes, procedures, metrics, and training to ensure efficient engineering program execution.
    • Ensure personnel are accountable to process and procedures, with a continuous improvement mindset.
    • Meet financial and budgetary objectives for the department.
  • Be accountable to staff the Engineering roles for TS business needs.
    • Understand the current and forecasted Engineering staffing needs, both for programs and for other needs within the TS business portfolio.
    • Promote collaboration with and leverage Talent Acquisition, other disciplines within the SMS Engineering, and other sectors BAE Systems for meeting the staffing objectives of TS.
    • Provide healthy and robust capabilities to support the business: skills, expertise, tools, and processes to include the capacities of those capabilities.
  • Accountable to manage the special capabilities, capital, tools and equipment that Engineering uses to support TS.
    • Ensure review of capital requests by TS for Engineering.
    • Manage a healthy testing capability for RF ranges.
    • Develop and document the processes and procedures for consistent and effective program execution and product delivery.
  • Provide the first-line interface between the TS business unit and all of the Engineering functions.
    • Communicate routinely and regularly with TS extended leadership.
    • Prioritize and communicate ongoing technical issues and concerns and mitigation solutions. Ensure timely and effective end-user support. Serve as focal point and escalation manager for incidents related to areas of responsibility.
    • Be cognizant of and advocate for Tactical Solutions business financials, forecasting, new business, and staffing projections and serve as main communications lead back to Engineering Leadership Team representing the SBU.
    • Establish and maintain clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations between the TS programs, engineering functional organizations, operations, and quality assurance.
    • Continue to enhance program execution in support of TS programs. For example, identify subject matter expertise to identify and manage risks in proposal bids and throughout program execution and product delivery.
  • Support the needs of the Engineering leadership team.
    • Support strategic data initiatives to include data analytics, data governance, and a well-established reporting and dashboard capabilities.
    • Participate in strategic planning for Engineering initiatives.
    • Balance meeting individual responsibilities with supporting and collaborating with other Engineering leaders in meeting their own objectives.
    • Communicate between the Engineering leadership team and TS supporting Engineering functions including flow of strategy, policies, objectives and events.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working four days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

Short-Term Incentive: Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS/BA in related field plus 12 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • High level of leadership and management skills to set direction, create goals in alignment with business requirements and timelines, prioritize operational and project tasks, and enforce accountability.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to identify talent, give sufficient autonomy and accountability, and build a highly functioning engineering team.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $173023 - $294137
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
