The CSI Strategy and Innovation Center of Excellence is seeking an experienced Director, Strategic Planning to join our dynamic team.

This high-impact and visible role leads strategic projects focused on analyzing market trends, identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing growth opportunities, & informing strategic decisions.  You will serve as an expert on industry and market dynamics, delivering strong, customer-focused, data-driven insights that uncover opportunities, outline clear implications, and support strategic recommendations.

Reporting directly to the Director of Market Intelligence and Strategy, this position offers an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader to make a significant impact on our business and contribute to the success of internal & external customers, as well as our segment partners.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Intelligence

  • Leverage deep understanding of products, market dynamics, industry trends, and stakeholder needs to shape strategy and deliver holistic & differentiated solutions

  • Deliver customer-centric, data-driven insights that identify opportunities, outline implications (“so-what”), and guide strategic action (“now-what”, “then-what”)

  • Operate as a strategic thought partner, contributing beyond assigned projects and collaborating cross-functionally and closely with senior business leaders

Strategy Development

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to define strategic aspirations, analyze market segmentation and where to play, determine required capabilities, and clearly articulate CSI value proposition for McKesson, PSaS segments, and customers

  • Inform product strategy and innovation by identifying and prioritizing growth opportunities, leading early-stage strategic initiatives from opportunity dentification to structured exploration of ideas to thought out strategic recommendations, and handing off validated concepts to innovation or functional teams for execution

  • Collaborate with Corporate Strategy, the Business Development CSI Segment Lead, and Commercial Business VP-GMs to develop long-range CSI strategy for priority initiatives, incorporating relevant business factors into actionable plans

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Translate long-range plans & vision to near-term (12-36 month) priorities and strategic and operational plans

  • Partner closely with stakeholders to align strategies across business unit segments and support annual business planning activities, including annual priority setting

  • Translate PSaS segment strategies into an actionable execution plan to guide CSI strategic initiative execution in partnership with commercial businesses

  • Establish and lead annual strategic planning process that aligns short- and long-term goals, ensures focus on high-impact priorities, and drives timely execution across CSI

Strategic Optimization

  • Develop and apply strong analytical frameworks and financial modeling skills to estimate market potential, assess operational fit, and support high-impact strategic projects, budgeting, capital allocation, and investment decisions

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent and typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if has relevant Master’s or Doctorate qualifications.

Education

Undergraduate degree in business, finance, technology, change management, healthcare, or similar fields of study is required; MBA or graduate degree preferred

Critical Skills

  • 7+ years strategy or management consulting experience, healthcare consulting, etc.

  • 5+ years’ experience in product development, strategy execution, etc.

  • Healthcare industry experience is a plus, but not required

  • Experience with primary research vendors, secondary research tools (e.g., AlphaSense, CB Insights, Pitchbook) and other research tools a plus

Additional Skills

  • Healthcare Knowledge: general knowledge and expertise of stakeholders, trends, economic drivers, and policy across the healthcare industry

  • Strategic Thinking: ability to evaluate industry trends, develop short- & long-term implications, and recommend actionable strategies—while connecting the dots across workstreams & synthesizing disparate pieces of information

  • Analytical Rigor: navigate and bring structure to ambiguous or undefined problems, demonstrating comfort with ambiguity and the ability to logically structure issues

  • Technical Capabilities: expert proficiency with MS Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, and data visualization applications such as Tableau

  • Communications Skills: skilled communicator with the ability to build credibility, promote ideas, and present complex concepts clearly and persuasively

  • Project Management: superior project management skills with demonstrated experience successfully managing cross-functional, complex project

  • Business & Financial Acumen: understanding of financial modeling and experience informing financial planning, building different types of forecasts & models

  • Self-starter with a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Perform well under pressure, & navigate challenging situations with professionalism

  • Strong executive presence with proven ability to influence senior leaders

  • Strategic thinker with a curious mindset and cross-functional problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements

  • General office demands

  • Must have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$153,200 - $255,300
