The Position 

We are a rapidly growing healthcare technology company seeking a Director of Software Engineering, to focus on Implementations, Production Support and Feature development on our current Ascend 1.0 platform. Our current tech stack is a combination of proprietary purpose-built data pipeline and off the shelf tool (QuickBase) that is configured for customers. Reporting to CTO, this role has three core focus areas – Production Support of our current data pipeline tech stack, implementation work for new customers or expansion of scope for existing customers, and other feature development on the platform. The role partners very closely with Product Operations, Product Management, Customer Success, other Engineering Directors, technical leads, and lead/principal Software Engineer(s) from other teams. Our Products generate actionable business and clinical insights for biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Responsibilities
  • Lead the software engineering side of customer implementations and production support. Partner with customer focused implementation teams to support the software engineering portions.
  • Partner closely with Head of Product Operations and support all aspects of supporting a customer from technology side - problem solving for longer term initativies, as well as tackling day to day support needs.
  • Plan the technology roadmap for the current tech stack which includes customer feature needs, platform upkeep, tech upgrades as well as productivity and efficiency enhancing initiatives.
  • Partner with Product Management to deliver customer delight on the existing platform – advising what is feasible, how it can be achieved and then leading the delivery.
  • Manage a team of software engineers, growing the team and continually assessing additional skill and resourcing needs to meet the needs of customers.
  • Lead the development of technical tools and programming to cleanse, organize and transform data and to maintain, defend and update data structures and integrity on an automated basis. 
  • Be the face of our current technology offering, and support/participate in customer solutioning conversations.
  • Be the thought partner for customer success and product management – in problem solving existing challenges or new customer needs
  • Foster innovation by designing and building solutions that solve business problems and by partnering with cross functional stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Develop secure and high-quality production code. Review / debugs code written by others.
  • Have a strong voice on ‘how should we do production support’ and plan the people, process and technology aspects anchoring on best practices from past experiences.

  • Influence and lead a cross functional multi disciplinary team to align on both business and customer opportunities.
  • Collaborate with partners across the organization, communicate engineering and platform vision, understand and prioritize needs and serve as an advocate and resource for the team.
  • Apply a high standard for quality to a balanced roadmap of UX improvements, stability, incremental improvements with pioneering new features.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends, leveraging them to drive platform innovation.
  • Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing guidance, support, and fostering a culture of excellence.
Who You Are 

Skills/Knowledge: 

  • Software Development leader with extensive understanding of external competition and technological trends.
  • Been an inspirational leader for a strong technical team.
  • Hands on experience with multiple disciplines of software engineering – front end, back end, 3rd party off the shelf systems, integration technologies, DevOps etc.
  • Expert on solving complex technical problems at senior levels leveraging experience with related technology stack and platforms.
  • Love working in a startup environment that moves fast and constantly delivers believing that a lot of incremental developments lead to large changes.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in software development engineering and technical leadership with a desire to grow the team and develop their skills.
  • Not afraid to code in a variety of languages including Python, C++ or others to build services and applications and share your knowledge with engineers on the team.
  • Experience with AWS technologies and resource to add the architecture and manage the infrastructure that support all business operations.
  • High degree of familiarity with software development processes, tools, metrics, and best practices.
  • Easily recount multiple examples of leading software projects with multiple work streams across various functional teams (like engineering, product, data science, marketing, customer success, legal).
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful — As a member of a startup, we need people who can find creative ways to make a big impact quickly and without much direction.
  • Experience handling deadlines, keeping many balls in the air, and prioritizing work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Development and operational experience with large scale, highly available distributed systems.
  • Experience with leveraging off the shelf systems for specific use cases, such as QuickBase,  Salesforce, Tableau and other platforms.
  • Experience implementing multi-tenant systems, with focus on reliability, performance, isolation and security.
  • Experience with Docker and container management frameworks such as Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines

Required:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Math or other STEM related fields
  • 15+ years of experience in Software Engineering, 5+ in People Management roles.
  • Strong experience with Agile software development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban. 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
  • Proven track record of leading and mentoring high-performing software engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven and customer-centric approach.

Preferred:

  • Experience building BI and data visualization applications in a multi-tenant environment.
  • Prior experience working in a growth stage, start-up environment.
  • Understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, including familiarity with pharmacy data, EHR and claims data, or other relevant healthcare data sources.
  • Experience delivering successful data analytics products and solutions in healthcare domain.
