Job Summary

The Director of Revenue Accounting is responsible for the consistent application of revenue recognition policies, procedures and controls. This role is crucial to the order-to-cash process. This role will work closely with Sales, Sales Operations and FP&A. Ideal candidates will have a strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and direct experience leading the full revenue accounting process.

What You'll Do

As a Director Revenue Accounting, a typical day may include the following…

  • Maintain revenue accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements (ASC 606).

  • Lead the monthly revenue close process including deal approval in Salesforce, journal entry preparation/review, and account reconciliation including deferred revenue, and accounts receivable.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with Sales, Sales Operations and Legal to proactively ensure a high level of integrity around revenue recognition. This includes reviewing contracts, order forms, and statements of work to identify appropriate billing and revenue recognition.

  • Approve non-standard deal structures to ensure proper revenue recognition while maintaining scalable billing operations.

  • Prepare monthly KPIs related to deal structure, revenue recognition and billing.

  • Enhance policies and processes over the orders-to-cash lifecycle.

  • Provide ad-hoc analysis for revenue and customer-related data for various product offerings.

  • Initiate business processes and financial system improvements.

  • Coordinate with the FP&A team to forecast revenue and billings in future periods

  • Be the lead point of contact for the external auditors for all revenue related inquiries

  • Manage the team of eight professionals, comprising of four in Revenue Accounting and four in the Collection team.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting of finance strongly preferred.

  • 8+ years of accounting and revenue accounting experience.

  • CPA and public accounting or working for a public company preferred.

  • Ability to work in multiple systems and quickly move from one system to another. Interest and aptitude handling a high volume of data processing.

  • Understanding of GAAP and related revenue recognition concepts.

  • Well-developed problem-solving, mathematical, and analytical skills.

  • Able to discern alternatives, make objective recommendations, and understand how to work with other business groups to accomplish goals.

  • Excellent communication skills in dealing with external and internal customers including upper levels of management.

  • Experience with NetSuite (or similar ERP system) and Salesforce.

  • Experience with billing systems such as Recurly or Zuora preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working for a SaaS company a plus.

  • Experience reconciling with merchant processors activity a plus.
