The Role

Fidelity Workplace Consulting seeks a Director of Quality Assurance to define, build, and lead the quality strategy for our highly customized retirement plan administration solutions. You will own the end-to-end QA operating model—spanning technical and business validation—and partner closely with delivery teams, business analysts, and clients to embed quality into every phase of the lifecycle. This is a transformational leadership role for a new and growing QA function, with the mandate to move from ad-hoc testing to a structured, scalable, risk-based program.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Own the QA Strategy & Operating Model

    • Design a risk-based quality framework aligned to business outcomes, client commitments, and regulatory expectations.

    • Define governance, entry/exit criteria, sign-off standards, and release readiness processes.

  • Balance Technical & Business Validation

    • Establish methods that verify technical correctness (e.g., automation, integration, ETL-ELT/data pipeline testing) and business integrity ('does the output make sense?'), including plan rules, calculations, and operational feasibility.

    • Create reference datasets, reasonableness checks, reconciliations, sampling strategies, and controls for complex client customizations.

  • Build & Lead the Team

    • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing QA team; create role definitions, career paths, and a culture of learning, empowerment, and clarity.

    • Coach teams to make quality a shared responsibility.

  • Implement Tools & Best Practices

    • Drive adoption of automation, test data management, defect taxonomy, triage, and root-cause analysis.

    • Leverage Jira (and related toolsets) for workflow, traceability, and reporting.

  • Deliver Measurable Outcomes

    • Establish and track KPIs: defect escape rate, DRE (Defect Removal Efficiency), test coverage, UAT pass rate, cycle time, rework %, automation coverage, MTTR, and data quality scoring.

    • Create feedback loops and continuous improvement plans across teams.

  • Partner Across the Business

    • Collaborate with Workplace Consulting teams (Consultants & Developers) to ensure alignment on quality criteria and readiness.

    • Lead go/no-go decisions and facilitate UAT with business stakeholders.

Key Outcomes in Your First 12 Months:

  • A documented QA strategy and playbook implemented across delivery teams.

  • Defined governance (RACI, standards, escalation paths) and a functioning defect management process.

  • Baseline quality metrics established with quarterly improvement targets.

  • A staffed and trained QA team with consistent practices and repeatable templates.

  • Improved go-live readiness and reduced defect escapes into production.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years in quality assurance or audit, including leading risk/quality assessments.

  • Demonstrated success building QA functions and transforming testing processes.

  • Experience in retirement plan administration or financial services strongly preferred.

  • BA/BS/MIS degree (or equivalent).

  • Proven leadership across diverse teams and complex programs; strong communication, judgment, and stakeholder management.

  • Experience with automation tools, CI/CD-aligned testing, and data/ETL validation.

  • Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving environments; passionate about product quality, customer experience, and efficiency.

  • Jira (and Confluence) experience a plus.

Preferred Tools/Technologies (nice to have)
