Duties We are seeking a hands-on Director of Production to develop our manufacturing, assembly and integration teams into a world class organization that supports the company’s growth objectives. You will establish and continuously improve processes within your teams and collaborate with our Supply Chain, Materials Management, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Design and Test Engineering teams to ensure our high-quality space vehicles are built on schedule and at scale. You will lead operations at multiple facilities, contribute to capacity planning and growth to meet customer demand. You will guide implementation of KPIs (key performance indicators) and drive actions to improve these KPIs to match best-in-class benchmarks. You will guide the team to leverage our ERP system and advise with implementation of new technologies to improve material traceability and employee productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, inspire and grow employees in manufacturing, assembly, manufacturing engineering and logistics.
- Strategically align initiatives to drive production scalability, flexibility and efficiency.
- Coach team members to improve skills via on-job, classroom and online training and hold team members accountable to follow policies, procedures and work instructions
- Lead daily operations on the production floor including planning, scheduling, WIP tracking, build execution, configuration management and real time problem resolution.
- Collaborate with support teams to ensure technical data, material, test resources, tooling, supplies and resolution on non-conformances are available on time to support build execution.
- Implement metrics (KPIs) and visual management tools to improve process transparency, daily shop management, employee productivity and support responsiveness.
- Strengthen culture of continuous improvement by improving processes to enhance employee and hardware safety, reduce cycle time and wait time, achieve zero defects and 100% on-time delivery.
- Organize lessons learned and provide actionable feedback to design/test engineering and materials teams to improve manufacturability of space vehicles.
- Support development of new space vehicles and drive manufacturing readiness to ensure rapid industrialization on schedule and budget.
- Lead capacity planning, capacity addition in manufacturing and assembly shops and ensure supplier capacity is available in time to support customer demand.
- Identify opportunities to improve functionality and integration of ERP system and ensure robust usage to available functionality.
- Support launch operations, critical customer reviews, proposals and special projects that support company objectives.
- Manage headcount, budgets and ensure actuals meet plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering with at least 15 years of relevant experience
- At least 10 years of team leadership experience in a high-rate manufacturing environment for complex engineered products/systems
- Strong people leadership skills and ability to develop talent
- Demonstrated experience with applying Lean Manufacturing tools
- Experienced in growing / scaling operations
- Demonstrated problem solving, conflict resolution skills
- Comfort with ambiguity, influencing, working collaboratively
- Experienced in leading change with data and analysis and a focus on people
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization
- Background in Aviation or Aerospace a plus
- Secret or Top-Secret clearance a plus
