About You
As Director, Product Safety & Risk Management, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and risk integrity of Nutrafol’s dietary supplement and cosmetic products, ensuring formula safety by design as well as post market safety and monitoring. You will partner closely with Safety Experts, Formulation, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Legal to proactively understand product-related risks and determine mitigation strategies while enabling compliant innovation and business growth. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs.
Responsibilities and Skills:
Product Safety Strategy & Governance
- Own and evolve the company’s product safety and risk management framework, policies, working within Unilever’s governance models, guidance and partnership
- Submit ingredients and formulas to Unilever safety team for evaluation and collaborate to understand assessments and feedback
- Ensure alignment with applicable global regulations, standards, and industry best practices
- Understand and assess exposure, dosing, vulnerable populations, and cumulative use considerations
Risk Identification & Mitigation
- Proactively identify safety and compliance risks associated with dietary ingredients, botanicals, cosmetic ingredients as well as formulations, packaging, and manufacturing
- Collaborating closely within the QA/RA team, develop and implement risk mitigation plans, including corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and proactive contaminant monitoring.
- Lead product risk assessments across development, launch, and post-market phases
- Partner with cross-functional teams to embed risk-based decision-making into product development and commercialization
Post-Market Surveillance
- Oversee post-market safety monitoring team, including adverse events and trend analysis
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on product safety and risk considerations
- Collaborate with Safety Experts, Formulation, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and Legal throughout the product lifecycle to support development, inspections, emerging trends and drive industry best practices
Leadership & Communication
- Translate complex risk and safety topics into clear, actionable guidance for cross-functional teams
- Prepare and present risk assessments, safety updates, and metrics to cross-functional teams
- Build and mentor a high-performing product safety and risk management team. Responsible for 1-2 direct reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in toxicology, regulatory affairs, biology, chemistry, medical sciences, pharmacology, public health etc.
- 8-12+ years of experience in product safety, risk management, quality, or regulatory roles within US dietary supplement/consumer health care/personal care industries
- 5+ years of experience hiring, leading, and mentoring a team
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. and international product safety regulations
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional risk assessments and safety initiatives
- Knowledge and experience on FDA and applicable laws and regulations, as well as of cGMP standards
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
- Strategic thinker with a strong risk-based mindset; exceptional judgment and decision-making under ambiguity
- Clear, confident communicator able to communicate complex information in an effective manner
