We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Product Development PMO to lead our group of program and project managers.
The purpose of this role is to ensure alignment between strategy and project execution, increase the predictability of project delivery, enhance consistency, and reduce waste.
This role has three primary responsibilities: (a) building and nurturing excellent project management practices within the product development organization, (b) managing projects and programs related to product development, and (c) managing and coordinating the multi-year product development plan.
The Director of Product Development PMO is a senior position, reporting to the SVP of Product Development. As such, the individual in this role is expected to serve as a role model and demonstrate outstanding leadership skills.

Responsibilities: 

1. Build and Nurture Excellent project management practices: 

  • Hire, coach, and train the project managers reporting to this role. 

  • Stay up to date with industry changes and updates and continuously implement new practices and tools to improve project management within the product development organization. 

  • Develop tools and practices to achieve standardization and clarity in project management. 

  • Collect and manage data to objectively report on status, risks, and issues, using data to support effective critical decision-making. 

2. Manage programs and projects related to product development: 

  • Effective project management is measured by accuracy and predictability of delivery. 

  • Lead a team of project and program managers in successfully executing initiatives such as new releases, cybersecurity enhancements, special development partnerships, quality improvements, and tool upgrades. 

  • Oversee planning, execution, and retrospective reviews of projects. 

  • Coordinate efforts across all functions, including those outside the product development organization, to accomplish project objectives. 

  • Provide clear and timely status reports on projects and escalate issues when senior management involvement is required. 

  • Track project milestones and maintain long-term progress against established goals. 

  • Drive ongoing improvements, resulting in greater predictability and more efficient use of resources. 

3. Manage and coordinate the multi-year plan of product development: 

  • Ensure the strategic intent of the roadmap is understood and confirm that all product releases and projects align with the overall strategy.  

  • Maintain a three-year product development roadmap, detailing the releases within the portfolio.  

  • Identify deviations from the long-term plan, such as timeline or expectation variances, as early as possible, alert senior management, and facilitate timely decisions to address gaps.  

  • Develop effective tools and channels to communicate the status of the multi-year plan and any changes to stakeholders both inside and outside the organization.  

  • Manage long-term strategic initiatives to enhance the efficiency of the product development organization, including efforts in quality improvement, cybersecurity, and changes to tools and systems. 

4. Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • The Director of Product Development PMO is expected to communicate with executives and external stakeholders. 

  • Build communication tools and channels that are suited for the specific audience

  • Proven experience in leading organizational change within large enterprises. 

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders.

  • Clear, strategic thinking with an ability to grasp the bigger picture while maintaining attention to detail. 

  • Passion for intelligent project management and waste reduction.

  • Executive presence. 

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficient in project management tools. 

  • Strong understanding of software development practices. 

  • Skilled in data analysis. 

  • Experienced with enterprise system design, particularly cloud-based solutions. 

 

Supervisory Skills: 

  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to mentor, motivate, and guide high-performing teams. 

  • Experience working with globally distributed teams in fast-paced, matrixed environments. 

  • Strong ability to define and execute business strategy, manage financials, and drive operational excellence. 

 

Qualifications Required: 

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Advanced business degree or equivalent experience is highly desirable. 

Experience: 

  • +15 years of experience in large-scale product development, project, and program management.  

  • Demonstrated success in leading substantial organizational change within major companies.  

  • Extensive background in regulated industries, particularly healthcare IT and medical device development.  

  • An advantage includes a foundation in software engineering. 

 

Travel: 

Up to 15%

Compensation

The salary range provided in this job posting is intended to reflect the general market value for the position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and the specific requirements of the role. This range may also be subject to change as market conditions evolve. We encourage open communication throughout the interview process to discuss compensation expectations. For base-salary + commission sales roles, the range represents On-Target Earnings.

Min – Max :

$160,000.00 - $240,000.00 (CAD)
