Natural Gas and Clean Fuels Director

Locations: Reston, Virginia Hybrid (Preferred)

Other Locations: United States Remote or Hybrid

ICF seeks a natural gas market and infrastructure expert and business development lead in our growing Energy Advisory line of business. You will contribute to and help execute a business strategy to grow our natural gas and clean fuels (RNG, certified gas, etc.) offerings. These consulting offerings typically integrate critical energy infrastructure studies, energy market fundamental analysis, resource assessments, and economic analysis to provide advice on energy market trends, regulatory issues, and investments.

ICF employs over 1,300 energy professionals worldwide. ICF’s Energy Advisory practice, home to about 250 of those professionals, advises producers, asset owners and developers, investors, and market participants, as well as federal, state, and local government clients, across the gas and power landscape through the development, regulatory, financing, and asset management phases.

As a Natural Gas and Clean Fuels Director, you will:

  • Work with clients and manage engagements to tackle complex challenges related to the role of natural gas and clean fuels in the energy transition.    

  • Develop views of demand, pricing, resource availability, and infrastructure needs, incorporating actions by federal, state, and local policy and regulatory bodies, for the purpose of market forecasting, long-term planning, and investment in natural gas, LNG, and gaseous clean fuels.  

  • Author reports or testimony that convey key analytic findings for distribution to clients, regulators, or policymakers and present findings verbally to clients and in public venues.

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of business opportunities sufficient to meet financial targets.

  • Establish yourself as a thought leader through external publications and presentations that showcase ICF’s technical leadership.

  • Work closely with our practice leads and marketing function to lead the continued development and branding of the team’s service offerings in this space.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or related subjects

  • 10+ years of experience developing and delivering consulting services to the natural gas industry, ideally as an external consultant or alternatively, by leading and growing new initiatives or business lines within a commercial gas utility or business

  • Working understanding of gas market fundamentals modeling approaches and tools

  • Demonstrated capabilities in developing effective relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and service providers

  • Ability to draft and deliver expert testimony related to natural gas, LNG and electricity markets before regulatory bodies, including responding to interrogatories and cross-examination

  • Availability to travel 5-10% of time to meet with clients, present at conferences, or provide testimony

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Proven track record of successful business development

  • Experience performing economic analysis and explaining econometric issues to clients.

  • Experience creating or modifying analytical models of natural gas supply, demand, and transportation

  • Experience advising industry executives on regulatory and business strategy issues, such as regulatory strategy, cost of service, cost allocation, and rates, and how these inform and drive corporate strategy

  • Ability to assess methane emissions control techniques in all natural gas supply chain sectors.

  • 5+ years of people or team management experience

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$173,832.00 - $295,514.00
