The Director, Indirect Procurement – North America is responsible for leading cost-effective procurement of non-product goods and services across all North American business units. Reporting directly to the VP, North America Finance, this role is tasked with driving tangible cost savings, improving working capital, and enhancing supplier value while maintaining tight control over indirect spend.
In a lean, performance-focused environment, the Director will ensure procurement directly supports company priorities around profitability, cash conservation, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, data-driven leader with a bias for action and strong business acumen.
Key Responsibilities
Cost & Cash-Focused Procurement Leadership
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to optimize cost, cash, and working capital across all indirect categories (e.g., Marketing, IT, Professional Services, Facilities, HR).
- Identify and execute cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives with a focus on ROI.
- Ensure tight control over budgeted indirect spend and contract compliance.
Stakeholder Alignment & Operational Support
- Act as a business partner to key functions such as Marketing, Finance, HR, IT, Legal, and Operations teams to understand sourcing needs and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve purchasing discipline and reduce rogue spend.
- Simplify procurement processes and ensure internal stakeholder satisfaction.
Supplier Management & Risk Mitigation
- Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, payment terms, and service levels.
- Optimize vendor terms to improve cash flow and payment cycles (e.g., DPO extension, volume discounts).
- Implement supplier KPIs and manage supplier performance for cost, quality, and delivery.
Team & Process Development
- Manage and mentor a small team of sourcing professionals focused on execution and savings delivery.
- Establish standardized sourcing practices, contract templates, and vendor onboarding processes.
- Maintain accurate records of savings and payment terms improvement to support finance objectives.
Data & Compliance
- Leverage procurement data and analytics to drive decision-making and ensure visibility into spend.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and audit requirements.
- Support implementation and utilization of procurement tools or systems (e.g., P2P, contract management).
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred but not required.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) a plus.
Experience
- 10+ years of procurement experience with a focus on indirect spend categories.
- Proven track record of delivering cost savings and working capital improvements.
- Experience in a privately held, cash-focused, or cost-sensitive company is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working in a lean structure and rolling up sleeves when needed.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Deep knowledge of cost modeling, cash flow drivers, and contract negotiation
- Strong understanding of supplier payment terms, DPO, and working capital levers
- Business-oriented mindset with strong financial acumen
- Proficiency with procurement tools and Excel-based spend analysis
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence non-procurement stakeholders
- Excellent communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Low-ego leadership and a hands-on, results-driven approach
Travel Requirement
- Minimal – less than 10%
Salary may vary depending on factors such as confirmed job-related skills, experience, and location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.
However, the pay range for this position is as follows. Sales Positions are eligible for a Variable Incentive
