Rhino + Jetty is making housing more affordable and accessible for millions of renters each year. We're the market-leading rental housing platform building simpler, more accessible ways for people to move into homes — and for property managers to lease with confidence.

Our technology removes friction from the move-in process, lowers upfront costs for renters, and helps property managers make faster, more accurate decisions. We support a network of 3 million rental units nationwide and work with 47 of the NMHC Top 100 property owners, including Greystar, Brookfield, Asset Living, UDR, and more.

We pioneered security deposit insurance and continue to push the industry forward with a growing suite of products — from deposit management to lease guarantees and loss-of-employment protection. We're growing quickly, tackling real problems at scale, and building technology that's changing how renting works.

About the Role

We're looking for a Director of Human Resources to lead our People function. Reporting to the VP, Finance and Accounting, you'll own the day-to-day HR portfolio - talent, culture, total rewards, compliance and HR operations, and partner closely with the VP, Finance and Accounting and executive team.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a lean, fast-moving fintech/proptech environment. You'll work alongside a dedicated recruiting resource, an established HRIS and benefits infrastructure and a Finance and Legal team that is already engaged on headcount planning, compensation and employment matters. The person who takes this role will shape how the People function grows from here.

What You'll Do

People strategy & culture

  • Execute the people strategy in partnership with the executive team, aligned to company goals and headcount plans
  • Champion company culture and employee experience; design and run programs across onboarding, engagement and recognition
  • Partner with leadership on org design, workforce planning and manager effectiveness

Talent & performance

  • Support the recruiting function (e.g., interview process design, onboarding, offer/comp alignment)
  • Build and run performance management and career pathing
  • Partner with leaders on hiring plans and role scoping as we grow

Total rewards & HR operations

  • Administer salary bands, run annual comp cycles and benefits renewals and support equity administration in partnership with Finance
  • Oversee HRIS and people analytics; prepare headcount, attrition engagement reporting for the executive team

Compliance & employee relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations matters, investigations and offboarding, escalating where appropriate; manage risk with pragmatism and empathy
  • Partner with our benefits platform and outside counsel on multi-state employment compliance
  • Maintain and evolve the employee handbook, policies and required trainings

What You'll Bring

  • 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, including 2+ years as the senior-most HR person or leading a team
  • Experience at a venture-backed or growth-stage technology company; fintech, insurtech, or proptech a strong plus
  • Working knowledge of federal, NY State/NYC, and multi-state employment law
  • Strength across the full HR stack: talent acquisition, total rewards, HRBP work, HR ops/HRIS and employee relations
  • Data fluency; comfortable partnering with Finance on headcount, comp, and people analytics, and telling a clear story to executives
  • Low-ego, high-ownership operating style; comfortable being both strategic and in the weeds
  • SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, PHR, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or HR specialization a plus

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting a regulated insurance entity (licensing, carrier partnerships, compliance touchpoints)
  • Familiarity with Bamboo and Sequoia or similar HRIS platforms and equity tools (e.g., Carta)

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Salary Range: $145,000 - $180,000

Rhino + Jetty has partnered with a number of compensation benchmarking tools to determine competitive and fair market pay bands for our size and stage. Our goal is to ensure each employee is paid equitably and competitively while also maintaining a consistent and standardized methodology.

Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors including qualifications for the role, experience level and balancing internal equity relative to other teammates.

Base salary is just one part of our Total Rewards Package here at R + J. In connection with this position, we also offer:

  • Competitive cash compensation package including base salary, milestone based bonus, and other financial perks
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage (up to 90% employer contribution) - eligible from your start date
  • 401(k), HSA, Life & Disability Insurance Coverage ($0 employee contribution for additional insurances)
  • Unlimited PTO Policy
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave
  • Stock option plan to give our employees a direct stake in R + J’s success
  • This role is remote-first with a preference for candidates based in the New York metro area, with occasional in-office collaboration
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend to fit your needs (meals, wellness, co-working)

Rhino + Jetty is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
