This role is directly responsible for leading employee relations and compliance matters, including advising managers, addressing workplace concerns, conducting or overseeing investigations, and ensuring appropriate resolution. While day-to-day administration of areas such as training, benefits, payroll, safety, and other HR operations may be delegated to HR team members or other responsible staff, the Director of Human Resources & Compliance retains oversight and ultimate accountability for the effectiveness, compliance, and consistent execution of the full HR function.

The Director of Human Resources & Compliance reports to and is accountable to the CEO. Also oversees and directs HR team.
Authority:The Director of Human Resources & Compliance has the support and authority necessary to carry out the responsibilities and tasks described in this job description and other responsibilities as delegated by the CEO.
Essential ResponsibilitiesHuman Resources Strategy and Oversight - 50%Responsibilities
- Implement HR strategies that support the Resort’s goals, manage the HR budget and ensure HR activities are completed within approved budget parameters
- Design, implement and oversee initiatives for employee engagement, retention, and organizational culture.
- Oversee a comprehensive leadership development and succession planning program that identifies and develops high-potential employees and ensures a continuous leadership pipeline aligned with the resort’s long-term goals.
- Collaborate with department managers to identify leadership competencies, create development plans for emerging leaders, and track program effectiveness.
- Support the administration of the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Compensation Plan and conduct wage and salary surveys. Review overall compensation plan and wage ranges regularly to ensure competitiveness. Administer wages within guidelines.
- Facilitate Employee Surveys, analyze results, make recommendations and develop plans for improvement.
- Oversee, through HR team members or other responsible staff:
- Personnel recordkeeping, HR data management, employee files, investigation files, medical records, payroll records, and required retention practices; retain ultimate accountability for confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Recruitment, selection, onboarding, staffing coordination, and employee housing processes; retain ultimate accountability for effective staffing, compliant hiring practices, and a positive employee experience.
- Benefits administration, vendor coordination, enrollment processes, employee benefit issue resolution, COBRA, HIPAA privacy, ACA, ERISA-related requirements, and plan communications; retain ultimate accountability for compliant and effective benefits administration.
- Payroll coordination, payroll-related compliance, reporting, and data accuracy; retain ultimate accountability for timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processes.
- Directly own employee relations and compliance, including workplace investigations with timely response, impartial fact-finding, appropriate documentation, and escalation of high-risk matters; grievance resolution; unemployment claims and appeals; and coaching managers on performance management, corrective action, policy interpretation, and risk mitigation.
- Directly oversee leave of absence and accommodation processes, including FMLA, Colorado FAMLI, paid sick leave, ADA, PWFA, workers’ compensation, return-to-work, and related documentation.
- Maintain current knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to wage and hour, equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination and harassment, work authorizations, leaves of absence, accommodations, workplace safety, workers’ compensation, unemployment, employee records, privacy, benefits, payroll, and required workplace notices and postings.
- Manage employee safety programs including workers’ compensation claims, injury reduction efforts, safety policies, procedures, training, manual updates, Cost Containment Program compliance and certification, and coordination among employees, departments, and insurance carriers.
- Responsible for the accurate preparation, completion and timely submission of government and regulatory filings, including but not limited to OSHA 300 and 300A logs, Form 5500, EEO-1 reports, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics surveys, and other federal, state, and local compliance reporting requirements.
- Develop, enforce, document, and communicate HR policies, procedures, and process documentation throughout the company.
- Implement and support performance management systems that align with business objectives.
- Protect the safety and confidentiality of employees and guests, their property, and information.
- Serve as a member of the management team and support resort-wide operations, emergency response, and Manager on Duty responsibilities as assigned (approximately one MOD shift per quarter).
- Ability to climb stairs and push, pull, carry and lift at least 30 pounds.
- Ability to navigate the Resort facilities.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field required; equivalent professional experience may substitute for the degree.
- Relevant HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR) are advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent quantitative and analytic skills
- Minimum of 5 years’ progressively responsible experience in Human Resources required, including direct supervision of staff, management of complex employee relations matters, and demonstrated experience supporting compliance and HR operations. Hospitality industry experience strongly desired.
- Strong Microsoft Office knowledge, preferred
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
Work hours and days are generally during regular business hours, but must be adaptable to needs of the position and will include weekends, evenings and holidays when necessary.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range for this position is $130,000 - $140,000 annually, and negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
