About the Role
The Director of Engineering plays an integral role in leading the Business Wire Engineering group including multiple development teams, QA, Release Engineering as well as engineering project management. As leader of the Engineering group, you will take charge of creating and maintaining Business Wire’s multi-lingual, public-facing web sites, client portals, and APIs, as well as internal applications and services. You will lead Business Wire's technology transformation initiative, transitioning from legacy Java applications to a modern technology stack across a wide array of applications and services. You will partner with business stakeholders as well as the leadership team to align the Engineering group to business priorities and ensure high quality deliverables.
What You'll Do
- Lead Engineering’s direction and execution, ensuring high standards of code quality across the organization, the effectiveness of SDLC processes, and overall operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders, team managers, and leadership to design projects and milestones. Provide essential input for Business Wire’s technical and product direction.
- Closely oversee project execution and ensure on-time deliverables.
- Actively contribute to architecture and technical direction discussions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, developing a culture of ownership and accountability.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration between Engineering, IT, Product and other functional areas.
- Maximize the effectiveness of teams by identifying and removing roadblocks, implementing process improvements, providing actionable feedback, and increasing technical maturity across the organization.
- Identify resource and knowledge gaps as well as deficiencies across the organization. Develop and oversee the implementation of solutions for addressing the issues.
What You'll Need
- 10+ years of experience in software development with a focus on SaaS-based enterprise software.
- Significant experience in distributed microservice architecture as well as GitOps frameworks.
- 7+ years of experience building and managing software engineering teams.
- Proven experience as a technology leader who has overseen complex enterprise software projects and has a deep understanding of software development processes and technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
- Up-to-date with current technologies to inform decision-making and technology adoption with focus on AWS services and modern programming languages such as Node.js, Typescript, GoLang, Python 3, or others.
- Proven experience leading a variety of engineering functions including development, QA, project management and others.
- Proactive in identifying problems and opportunities and developing creative solutions.
- Effective in the planning and oversight of engineering projects with ambitious timelines.

What We Offer
The base salary range for this position is $240K to $265K/year. Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data. Business Wire reserves the right to modify this salary range at any time.
