Role

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to drive the maturity and expansion of the SmarterDx product suite, leading multiple full-stack teams building applications in Typescript and Python. The ideal candidate combines a product mindset with strong architectural instincts and deep understanding of the tech stack to optimize software delivery with operational sustainability. This leader thrives in fast-paced environments where shipping high-quality, user-centered software is critical. This role reports to the Head of Engineering.

SmarterDx builds clinical AI that empowers hospitals to analyze the complete record of every patient to fully capture the value of care delivered. Founded by physicians in 2020, its proprietary AI platform understands the nuances of clinical reasoning, enabling hospitals to true the patient record for every discharge. This role is fully remote within the US.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide technical leadership over a portfolio of products, improving existing offerings and launching wholly new ones
  • Deliver on company goals by building and guiding high performance teams and managing risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs
  • Partner closely with product managers, designers, and stakeholders and think outside of the box to find faster ways to answer product hypotheses
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics for quality and velocity and holding your teams accountable to them
  • Protect patients’ privacy by ensuring secure coding practices are used throughout the codebase
  • Partner with engineering leadership to set standards, technical vision, and software architecture
What You Bring
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience
  • 4+ years management experience with 2+ years managing managers
  • Proven success delivering new software products to market
  • Track record of scaling engineering teams and mentoring senior engineers and managers
  • Strong commercial intuition with experience aligning technical best practices to business objectives
  • Expertise in applying Domain-Driven Design to drive architecture
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working at startups, especially in the health tech space
Nice To Have
  • You're a former startup founder, or have managed a team at a fast-growing startup
  • Experience building complex data visualization applications
  • Experience with Snowflake

Compensation

$260 to $300K base salary + equity incentives
