We're seeking a visionary and seasoned Director of Engineering to lead our low-code/pro-code developer platform. In this critical role, you'll drive the future of AI-powered Smart Apps platform-bringing to life multi-turn vibe coding experience that enables conversational, agent-driven app development. You'll lead high-impact engineering teams building the next-generation Smart Apps platform, powered by advanced reasoning LLMs and designed to serve both internal and external developers.
You'll own strategy, development, execution-driving the roadmap, making critical architectural decisions, and ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of the Smart Apps platform on the ServiceNow Cloud. You'll be at the helm of a world-class team of AI, software, and full-stack engineers, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in intelligent app development end to end life cycle.
Day-to-day, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners-Product Management and Developer Experience teams-to align on roadmap priorities. You'll be a hands-on leader solving complex problems . In addition, you'll mentor engineering managers, cultivate a culture of technical excellence, promote innovation, high-velocity, high-quality delivery across the team.
This is a critical role in our intelligent developer organization, reporting to Senior Director of Engineering

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $195,700 - $342,500, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs. Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.

Qualifications

- Bachelors in computer science or related field
- 12+ years in software development
- 6+ years leading engineering teams (preferably in AI/ML)
- Hands-on, highly technical leader with strong collaboration and communication skills
- Experienced with LLMs and building enterprise-grade AI software and tools
- Strong familiarity with modern AI/ML lifecycle tooling and infrastructure, such as
- Model development PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain
- Experiment tracking MLflow, Weights & Biases
- Containerization & orchestration
- Observability & monitoring
- RAG technologies
- Solid background in technology stacks such as Node.js, TypeScript, Java, and frontend frameworks like React and Angular
- Full product lifecycle expertise: design, planning, development, launch
- Solid foundation in distributed systems, full-stack development, CI/CD
- Embraces rapid, iterative improvement and continuous learning
