About the position

Voya Financial is looking for a person with a deep love for and understanding of data to fill our Director of Data Engineering role.  This role leads teams of data professionals in the development and maintenance of data pipelines that support all aspects of Voya’s business. The ideal candidate should be known as an analytical thinker who approaches their work with logic and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multiple data engineering teams. This includes attracting, mentoring, and retaining great data talent
• Oversee and assist in architecture, solution design, and implementation
• Proactively work with internal customers answering questions and addressing concerns
• Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives
• Work with the PMO and product teams to create a clear roadmap and vision for the data organization
• Monitor data performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to optimize data infrastructure and processes

Technical Expertise

• Proficient in SQL and general database concepts
• Proficient with Linux commands and environments
• Experience in one or more Cloud platforms (i.e. AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Experience building data pipelines using Databricks/Spark
• Experience with data quality using a data expectations framework such as Soda, Great Expectations, or Deequ
• Experience developing mature SDLCs including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Hands-on experience with Python, Scala, Java and/or JavaScript; ability to quickly pick up new languages
• Experience in any of the following is strongly preferred: Hadoop, Kafka, or Presto
• Experience in data science, including predictive modeling is strongly preferred
• Experience in any of the following is considered a plus: Google/Adobe Analytics, Adobe Test & Target/Optimizely/Monetate, and other Web Analytics and Testing tools

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or similar field of study

Compensation Pay Disclosure:

Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.

The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya may offer incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
