POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Assistant Controller will oversee primarily Crinetics’ U.S. accounting operations and treasury management. This role ensures accurate, timely financial close and reporting, leads payroll, stock administration, and accounts payable functions, and manages cash operations and banking relationships. This role also partners closely with FP&A, procurement, certain accounting and tax external vendors, external audit, HR, and legal to strengthen the company’s internal infrastructure, while supporting Crinetics’ growth into a more complex, commercial-stage enterprise. The ideal candidate will combine operational discipline with leadership maturity and an eye toward scalable process improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These may include but are not limited to:

Accounting Operations & Services

  • Lead monthly and quarterly U.S. close processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
  • Manage general accounting, payroll, stock administration, and accounts payable teams and daily operations
  • Partner with technical accounting and external reporting teams on policy application and issue resolution
  • Serve as a key liaison to external auditors during quarterly reviews and year-end audit
  • Maintain effective internal controls in partnership with internal audit and SOX teams
  • Support documentation and process standardization across the accounting function
  • Support certain international aspects of the accounting operation within company’s fast evolving environment.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Own day-to-day treasury responsibilities, including cash and investment positioning, banking relationships, and cash disbursement controls
  • Partner with FP&A on liquidity planning, forecasting, and working capital optimization
  • Coordinate with tax and legal teams and vendors on entity-level banking structures, mandates, and compliance in collaboration with international teams and partners
  • Develop scalable processes to improve cash visibility, operational efficiency, and readiness for growth

Team Leadership

  • Directly manage team leads in Payroll, Accounts Payable, Expense Operations, and General Accounting
  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback; support team development and succession planning

Systems & Process Evolution

  • Serving as the primary product manager in facilitating continuous improvements in cross-functional collaboration over all financial systems such as NetSuite, Coupa, Concur, FloCast, Workday, and others.
  • Contribute to upcoming finance systems implementation projects (e.g., consolidation and financial reporting optimization)
  • Help streamline processes and enable greater automation and documentation 
  • Support internal communication and planning efforts tied to quarterly close, year-end readiness, and audit deliverables

There may be other equivalent and relevant duties to be assigned as the organization evolves.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification or significant progress toward CPA
  • 12+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • A minimum of 8 years in a supervisory role.
  • Prior experience managing accounting teams
  • Public company experience, including familiarity with U.S. GAAP and internal controls (SOX)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions

Preferred:

  • “Big Four” public accounting experience, preferably having achieved manager promotion
  • Biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry experience
  • Experience with treasury or banking operations
  • Familiarity with financial systems implementations (e.g., ERP, inventory, consolidation modules)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Travel:

You may be required to travel for up to 10-15% of your time.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is: $174,000 - $217,000.

In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, stock options, ESPP, and 401k match.
