The Impact of a Director, Analytics Engineering at Coupa:

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Director of Analytics Engineering to lead our Analytics Engineering team. The ideal candidate will possess over 10 years of relevant experience in analytics engineering, data modeling, and team leadership. They should excel at building scalable data products, have excellent business relationship management skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in SQL, Tableau, and DBT is essential, along with a deep understanding of Snowflake, Fivetran, and other ETL tools.

What You'll Do:

  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and oversee the Analytics Engineering team, including analytics engineers and Tableau developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members
  • Build and scale a high-performing analytics function that delivers reliable, scalable data products to support business needs
  • Foster a culture of data quality, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement

  • Analytics Engineering & Data Modeling
  • Drive the design and implementation of robust data models that support a hybrid reporting structure (governed self-service reporting)
  • Hands-on involvement in data transformation, modeling, and analytics to ensure best practices and architectural excellence
  • Design and optimize data models and architecture to support analytical and reporting requirements across the organization
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data pipelines, transformations, and semantic layers

  • Business Partnership & Delivery
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders to understand their analytics needs and priorities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, and deliverables
  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of analytics projects, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance
  • Enable governed self-service analytics by building intuitive, well-documented data products

  • Technology & Innovation
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the analytics engineering team
  • Monitor and ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of analytics solutions, including dashboards, reports, and data pipelines
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in analytics engineering, data modeling, and modern data stack technologies

  • Data Visualization & Insights
  • Oversee Tableau development efforts and dashboard design to uncover insights and drive data-driven decision-making
  • Ensure data visualization best practices and governance standards are followed across all reporting deliverables

What You Will Bring to Coupa:

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field. Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or data management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing high-performing analytics teams

  • Technical Expertise
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL for data manipulation, analysis, and optimization (required)
  • Strong experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) for data transformation and modeling (required)
  • Proficiency in Tableau for data visualization and reporting
  • Deep understanding of Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools such as Fivetran, Stitch, or Airflow
  • Experience building and maintaining dimensional models, metrics layers, and semantic frameworks

  • Core Competencies
  • Strong understanding of analytics engineering principles, including data modeling, data quality, and testing frameworks
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical work with strategic leadership responsibilities
