Job Description:
The director of accounting is responsible for the strategic oversight of financial operations, technical accounting, and compliance. This position requires deep expertise in complex accounting standards and a proven ability to drive high-impact initiatives. The director of accounting ensures financial reporting accuracy, oversees key reconciliations, and manages accounting policies and procedures. This role requires advanced technical knowledge and leadership capabilities. They are expected to take ownership of complex transactions, conduct in-depth financial analysis and identify potential discrepancies. They provide high-level analysis, review contracts, and work closely with auditors and senior management. The role requires a strong foundation in U.S. GAAP, experience with enterprise accounting systems, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead an accounting team, including prioritizing tasks and deliverables, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
Maintain financial records and general ledger accounts in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Oversee financial reporting, technical accounting, and internal controls.
Oversee a team of accountants (both onshore and offshore), providing training and mentorship.
Lead the monthly and quarterly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Monitor internal controls to ensure compliance.
Utilize enterprise financial systems (Workday) to process transactions and generate reports.
Drive automation, system enhancements, and process improvements.
Lead accounting projects and analysis related to ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 340, and ASC 350 and serve as a subject matter expert in these areas.
Review contracts, financials, reconciliations, and journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
Collaborate with auditors, tax professionals, and financial planning teams.
Ensure timeliness and accuracy in financial reporting.
Conduct technical research on accounting standards and recommend process changes.
Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy and acquisitions.
Develop and mentor senior accounting leaders.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (at a 4 year university).
Master’s degree in Business Administration strongly preferred.
10-12+ years of accounting experience, ideally in SaaS, Banking, or FinTech.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including advanced knowledge of ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 340, and/or ASC 350.
Proficiency with accounting systems (Workday strongly preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding expectations and deadlines.
Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities.
Experience with acquisitions and integrations.
Experience managing offshore staff.
CPA required.
