Seeking a young moderator for webinar on designing with children and young peopleAbout the role

Portable are looking for a young person to moderate an upcoming one hour webinar on designing with children and young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop facilitation and public speaking skills, gain experience in event moderation, and connect with experts in design, health and youth services. We will provide support and training to ensure you feel confident and prepared.

We want this event to centre young voices and we believe that having a young person lead the conversation is an important way to model best practices in engagement.

About the webinar

This event will bring together experts and practitioners to explore the challenges, ethics and opportunities of designing programs and services with and for children and young people. The audience will include designers, researchers and professionals working in health, mental health, education and social services.

Panelists will share their insights on:

  • When, why and how to engage children and young people in design
  • What best practice looks like, including ethics, safety, trauma-informed
  • Practical approaches for meaningful engagement i.e. play-based activities

Key responsibilities

  • Moderate the panel discussion, introducing speakers and facilitating audience questions
  • Ensure the conversation stays engaging, inclusive and on-topic
  • Work with our team in advance to help design the event
  • Participate in a short briefing and training session to build confidence in moderation skills

Who we're looking for

This role is open to young people (aged 18-25) who:

  • Have a passion for youth advocacy, design or social impact
  • Feel comfortable speaking in front of an audience (or are keen to develop this skill!)
  • Are good at listening, asking questions and keeping a conversation flowing
  • Have lived experience with youth services, co-design or advocacy (preferred but not required)
  • Are available for a briefing session and the live webinar (tentatively scheduled for 15th May, 2025)
