About LPSD
We design and manufacture Cat C27, C32, 3400, 3500, C175, 3600 and C280 platforms; Perkins 4000 series and 5000 series platforms and MWM gas engine platforms, drivetrains and engine system components.
Through our global organization, we design and manufacture the most comprehensive lineup of large diesel and natural gas engines in the industry, as well as engine components and powertrains. The large engine product portfolio includes Cat, Perkins and MWM branded products. Applications include Cat machines, electric power generation, marine, oil & gas, industrial and locomotive.
Role Definition:
Performs analytical tasks and initiatives on large data sets (time series and transaction) to support data-driven business decisions and development.
Responsibilities:

  • Data gathering, data mining, and data processing processes in cloud and on-prem databases; creating appropriate data models to support engine product support and engine condition monitoring.
  • Leading to define requirements and scope of data analyses, presenting and reporting insights applied to engine engineering problems.
  • Conducting data model and algorithm optimization to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analyses.
  • Create condition monitoring content related to engine and powertrain systems.
  • Complete data studies and investigations to support engine engineering product support and product development.


Requirements:

  • Applied Statistics: Experience using statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making decisions. Experience with both transactional and timeseries data.
  • Machine Learning: Experience with principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services. Experience with script-based analysis and visualization. Experience with data mining and cleaning.
  • Programming Languages: Experience using concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms to write and modify programming languages. Python and/or SQL experience preferred.
  • Query and Database Access Tools: Experience using data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use. Experience with both transactional and timeseries data.


Top Candidates will have:

  • Degree in an Engineering discipline or Applied Analytics
  • Familiarity with Mechanical Systems: Understanding the workings of engines, machines, and other mechanical systems.
  • Experience testing of mechanical or industrial systems and analyzing time series data collected from the equipment.
  • The ability to effectively communicating complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Additional Information:

  • Up to 10% domestic travel required for this position.
  • Primary location is Mossville, IL.
  • This position is currently a hybrid in-office work model, requiring a 3-day weekly office presence onsite at our (location) office and remote work for the remaining days. However, work arrangements may be adjusted at any time based on business needs.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
